Holy Trinity National School is a co educational school situated in the heart of beautiful Westport. We have three classrooms. Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class are in the Junior Classroom. 2nd, 3rd and 4th Class are in the Middle Room and 5th and 6th Class are in the Senior Room. In our small school environment all pupils and staff get to know each other very well and many strong relat

ionships and friendships are formed among our pupils. All our pupils are valued and respected and experience a sense of caring and belonging. Our school is under the patronage of The Church of Ireland and also welcomes children from different faiths and none. We currently have a number of families from different faiths and we enjoy learning from each other. Our school caters for children with various special educational needs as well as for children whose first language is not English. We have a learning support / resource teacher and a special needs assistant. On a weekly basis our children enjoy drama lessons, tin whistle lessons and Irish dancing lessons with specialist teachers. We also have after-school soccer for middle room and senior room pupils. Throughout the school year pupils participate in many whole school activities including our annual Christmas concert, an Irish dancing and music performance, gardening club, Westport Art's festival activities, Active week, Friendship Week and a variety of other activities. Our senior pupils also enjoy gaelic training, spike ball, cross country running, Greenway cycles, quizzes. Click on whole school activities to see more details of these activities and others. Developing an appreciation by pupils of Ireland's culture, traditions and language is an integral part of the school's educational activities.

Junior Room went hunting for mini beasts today for Forest School. We used pooters to suck up, woodlice, ants, caterpillars and then examined them through the magnifying glasses before returning them to their homes.

5th and 6th class have enjoyed 10 weeks of Français avec Kate doing the Say Yes to Languages programme. They had an introduction to basic everyday phrases, how to talk about themselves and their family, colours, numbers, weather, animals, they learned with songs and games and fun activities in the classroom and playground. Kate treated everyone to a quintessentially French treat on the last day of class, croissants et chocolat! 🥐🍫🇫🇷
Learning a language is a great way to raise awareness of and curiosity in cultural diversity and to highlight similarities and differences in language and life. Merci Kate!

It was lovely to be joined by Lisa and Rachel from Westport AC for this morning's assembly. They very kindly gave certificates, medals and keyrings to all the children for participating in the Active Day with Sonia O'Sullivan recently. We also received a lovely framed school photo with Sonia. (Anyone wishing to take part in Westport Community Games, fun day hosted by Westport AC, this Saturday at 9:30 am please see details below).

These are our last two projects on Counties in Ireland presented by Oliver and Robyn. Oliver's project was on County Dublin and he told us about author and poet - Oscar Wilde, Lead singer of the band U2 - Bono, and all about Dublin Castle. Robyn told us all about County Sligo and it's famous poet - William Butler Yeats and about Benbulben mountain. Well done to all in The Middle Room on their hard work and wonderful presentations. It's not easy to stand up and speak in front of a whole class so well done everyone.👏

Another proud day for Holy Trinity NS as we were presented with our 8th Green Flag by An Taisce.
Ms Bourke ( Green Schools Co ordinator) travelled to Claremorris with three pupils to collect our new flag.
For the past two years we have been working towards the flag for Global Citizenship Marine while also maintaining our focus on the other themes.
In March, Mary Forde from Mayo County Council visited our school and spoke to our Green School committee ( 3rd and 4th class) about their work on the theme. Thankfully she approved our application for submission and today we were rewarded for our work.
Throughout this process the children have increased their awareness of the marine life and the impact that microplastics , litter and waste is having on all types of marine life.
The children have deepened their understanding of the impact of human behaviour on the environment and how by making small changes we can make a difference.

Some more of The Middle Room projects on Counties in Ireland were presented last week. Jakub told us all about Co. Kerry and in particular Tom Crean who was familiar to us all from earlier this year. Chloe did her project on Co. Waterford, telling us about the famous 'Waterford Crystal' and cyclist Seán Kelly. Ellie did her project on Co.Clare, where we learned about the Cliffs of Moher and Michael Cusack - founder of The GAA, and Cole and Mysha did their projects on Cork and Tipperary. Cole gave us a lot of information on the famous footballer, Roy Keane and Mysha told us all about The Rock of Cashel and singer Una Healy. Well done to everyone 👏
