The Mayo News

The Mayo News Welcome to The Mayo News on Facebook. We encourage you to join the conversation on our page. We also welcome fun and banter.

Guidelines

The following Mayo News page guidelines are designed to help ensure a safe, high-quality, pleasant and stimulating experience for our Facebook fans. We welcome intelligent exchanges, thoughtful commentary, informed debate and points made politely. There are some things we do not tolerate on our Facebook wall. We don’t take decisions on removing comments lightly, but we do expe

ct participants to post commentary that is both relevant and respectful to this community as a whole. We reserve the right to remove comments and/or block users. Reasons for such action include the following:

• Comments, links, images or videos that are inappropriate (i.e. obscene, profane or hateful in nature, including racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic comments)
• Comments that are abusive, trolling, harassing, stalking or threatening
• Personal attacks on authors, other users or any individual – including vicious or persistent name-calling and attacks on an individual rather than his or her argument or position
• Comments that are defamatory or libellous
• Comments that are off-topic
• Threats on any person or organisation or company
• Deliberate and/or malicious misrepresentation of The Mayo News or our journalists
• Spam and advertisements
• Uploading files that contain viruses or programs that could damage the operation of other people’s computers
• If a comment or post is removed for any of the reasons above, it is sometimes necessary to remove subsequent messages that refer to or quote from the original (removed) comment, in order for the wall commentary to make sense. This may also happen because a later comment quotes directly the problematic bits of the original comment, which can perpetuate the problem. Please bear in mind that you may be misunderstood, so try to be clear. Tone (sarcasm, humour and so on) does not always come across the way you intend when using words on a screen. You can help to keep the Mayo News page open to all viewpoints by maintaining a reasonable tone, even in unreasonable circumstances. Please note that comments by fans to The Mayo News page do not necessarily reflect the opinions of The Mayo News, nor does The Mayo News confirm their accuracy. Also worth noting is that, from time to time, and when relevant, we may publish comments alongside Mayo News stories in our print edition and on mayonews.ie. These guidelines will be updated as the need arises, so do check back from time to time. Finally, please be aware that comments on this page are reactively moderated. If you wish to report anything inappropriate, please email [email protected].
