There’s something very special about places that allow people to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Tucked away near Campile in South Wexford, Kilmokea Country Manor & Gardens feels like one of those rare discoveries.

Set around a beautiful Georgian manor, Kilmokea is far more than simply a place to stay. The seven-acre heritage gardens are the real heart of the experience — woodland walks, ponds, winding paths, walled gardens, herbaceous borders, productive organic gardens, and quiet corners designed for reflection and calm.

What makes Kilmokea particularly special is the care and vision of owner Emma Langton, who has shaped the property into a destination centred around gardens, wellness, hospitality, and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape.

From the indoor heated pool and sauna to the conservatory café overlooking the gardens, everything feels connected to the rhythm of the place itself.

Places like this remind us that some of the best experiences are often the simplest — gardens in bloom, birdsong, homemade food, a gentle walk through woodland, and a chance to step away from the noise of everyday life for a while.

Whether you're visiting the gardens, stopping by the café, or planning a relaxing overnight stay, Kilmokea is well worth discovering.

There are certain places people ask us about again and again.

“Where can we go for a seaside walk and sit by the sea afterwards in Wexford?”

Honestly, it’s hard to beat a walk around Cahore Point followed by food at The Strand Cahore.

Set beside the coast in one of Wexford’s most beautiful seaside villages, it captures what many people are really looking for when they visit Ireland — sea air, relaxed hospitality, local food, good coffee, fresh fish, and a genuine sense of place.

You can walk the dunes and coastline at Wexford Walking Trails Cahore Cliff Walk, dip into the sea if you fancy, watch the boats coming and going, then settle in for lunch, dinner, or something casual from their Seabiscuit food truck.

Chef and manager Bernie Finn and the team have created something that feels deeply connected to the area, championing local ingredients and food that suits the setting perfectly — fresh seafood, comforting seasonal dishes, and simple things done properly.

It’s the kind of place that works at every pace — a coffee after a windy beach walk, a relaxed lunch overlooking the sea, or an easy summer stop while exploring the coast.

If you’re exploring Wexford this summer, Cahore is always worth the detour.

A Saturday morning at Gorey Farmers Market is one of the best ways to experience the flavour of Wexford and the wider South East.

Set in the heart of town, the market brings together a brilliant mix of growers, bakers, makers, fishmongers, cheesemakers, and small-scale food producers, many of whom are growing, producing, harvesting, baking, fermenting, or crafting everything by hand themselves.

You’ll find everything from seasonal vegetables, milk, butter, local cheeses, free-range meats, fresh breads and pastries, to preserves, cakes, seafood, flowers, ferments, and small-batch pantry ingredients. It’s the kind of market where conversations matter just as much as the produce, where you can actually meet the people behind the food.

Some familiar faces often found there include:
Saltrock Dairy
Elderberry Farm Produce
Redmond Farmhouse Grocer
Nutorious
Farm Produce
and many more

Markets like this quietly play an important role in keeping local food culture alive, supporting small producers, shortening supply chains, strengthening local economies, and giving people direct access to food with real provenance and seasonality.

If you’re visiting Gorey on a Saturday morning, it’s well worth wandering through with a coffee in hand and a reusable bag ready to fill. Open from 8am until 1pm in the Gorey Community School car park.

Fire, food, and a different way of learning 🔥

There’s something about cooking over fire that changes the pace.

At Smokin Soul, it’s not just about technique — it’s about understanding. Working with fire, learning how ingredients respond, and building a deeper connection to food through time, patience, and practice.

Their workshops and experiences bring together chefs, producers, farmers, and curious cooks — sharing knowledge in a way that feels both grounded and highly skilled. Hands-on, thoughtful, and rooted in real craft.

Alongside the courses, their larger Feast of Fire festival bring that same ethos to life at scale — bringing people together around fire, food, and shared experience.

If you’re curious about live fire cooking or just want to experience food in a different way, it’s well worth exploring.

A quiet corner of Wexford that feels like stepping into another time 🌿

Tucked beside Tintern Abbey, the Colclough Walled Garden carries centuries of growing, gathering, and care within its brick walls.

The Colclough family built this Georgian walled garden not just for beauty, but for a purpose — to feed the house, the community, and the seasons. Today, you can still feel that rhythm as you walk through.

There are two distinct gardens here,
one more formal, structured and ornamental,
the other a working kitchen garden.

And then there are the mature trees.
An old pear tree, still standing, still giving.
Heritage apple trees, shaped by time, weather, and careful hands over generations. Each year, volunteers harvest the apples to make cider and apple juice — available to buy and taste at the visitor reception.

If you’re passing through South Wexford, it’s well worth the stop.
Take your time. Walk slowly. Soak up the beauty of this place. and check out the honesty shop for fruit, herbs and vegetables grown in the garden.

Opening times are available on their website.

There’s something special about stepping into an ancient woodland - especially when you’re guided by someone who knows its stories.

Lorraine’s Gallivanting.ie Walks in Courtown Woods offer a beautiful way to slow down and reconnect - exploring one of the last remaining ancient woodlands in Ireland, while learning about foraging, folklore, and the rhythms of the season.

It’s exactly the kind of experience we love to see as part of Taste Wexford - rooted in place, shaped by knowledge, and quietly unforgettable.

Blue skies over Wexford today - the kind that remind us a new season is beginning.

Across the county, farmers and growers are back in their gardens and fields planting for the season ahead; our tour guides .ie and are preparing new routes and stories; boats are heading out; and B&Bs, cafés, bakeries and restaurants are getting ready to welcome visitors once again.

This year, we’re delighted to welcome guests travelling to Wexford from Mexico, America, South Africa, Germany, Spain, France and the UK - joining us to experience the county through its food, drink and rich heritage.

Wexford has always been a place best experienced slowly - through its landscapes, its tables, and the people who care deeply about the food and traditions of this place.

If you’re planning a visit and would like to join one of our food tours, we’d love to hear from you.

Spring has arrived in Wexford 🌱
