From our lovely guests who stayed in our home in ashdod
Most people I know have never been to Ashdod or even heard of it. They say "what's in Ashdod?" When they go to Israel they prefer to holiday in Tel Aviv, Herziliya, Jerusalem or maybe Netanya .
We were lucky enough to discover Ashdod 2 years ago when we stayed in a luxury apartment with it's own pool. The best things about the apartment is the lounge area & pool area. Both are literally out of a magazine and if this luxury apartment was in Herzliya it would be 3 times the price - if that! So when people say don't you prefer to stay in a hotel - all they need to do is see this apartment and all would become clear. It is very spacious and has four bedrooms with 3 bathrooms.
It's also a 5 min walk to the beach which is beautiful.
The beauty of Ashdod is that you don't have to hunt for kosher food! In Herzliya & Tel Aviv, you are lucky to find a restaurant which is kosher. The town centre is a 5/10 min walk away with several kosher restaurants - namely a wonderful milky one called Greg & a fabulous meaty one called Shipudeh Tzipporah. There is a supermarket & pharmacy also in the same area and two indoor shopping centres.
For Shabbat we bought food from a place called "Blue Castle" 5 mins by car. This is specially for Shabbat - I have never seen anything like this before and the first time you go is an experience - full of people all buying their Shabbat meals. The choice of meat, fish, rice, salads, humous, challa, wine & cakes is incredible - you don't know what to buy first - and the quality is fabulous. I never like to buy food for Shabbat as I am so fussy and prefer my own food but the food here was so tasty and of a high standard. This made our Shabbat in the apartment in Ashdod very special and a proper holiday for the mum of the house - me!
There is also a shul 1 minute away.
All in all I would recommend this flat in Ashdod if you want some luxury and tranquility, a choice of kosher food, and a chilled atmosphere.
In fact it is unlike any part of Israel we have stayed as it's a real getaway from it all - like Spain except with kosher facilities.
You come home from Israel having had a real rest !
