Har Karkom - world's best examples of rock engravings

In the most remote area of the Negev Desert Mt. Karkom is a unique phenomenon. The mountain had been for a long time, since the Paleolithic, Late Chalcolithic, Early Bronze, and the Middle Bronze ages, a pilgrimage, ceremonial, and cultic site.

Archeology excavation at Mt. Karkom discovered shrines, altars, stone circles, stone pillars, burial tumuli and tens of thousands of rock engraving, among the world's best examples.

Some scholars consider Har Karkom of being the Biblical Mount Sinai. That idea is under dispute.

The two-three days hiking trail, from Mt. Karkom to the Ramon crater, is one of the fascinating solitude walks of the Negev Desert.

The church of the Primacy of Saint Peter – Mensa Christi

The Saint Peter Church located on a beautiful tranquil shore of Tabgha on the northern part of the Sea of Galilee. The Church commemorates the meeting between Jesus and seven of the apostles at a time after his rising from the dead. He made the miracle catch of the fish, prepare a meal, feed them on the Mensa Christi and reinstate peter's primacy as the leading apostle (Jone 21:1-19).

The modern small Franciscan church built in 1933 by incorporating parts of the much earlier 4th-century Byzantine church.

Makhtesh Ramon is the largest and the most impressive of the few craters (Makhtesh) in the Israeli Negev Desert. A unique phenomenon which exists only in the Negev and in the closed by Sinai peninsula. Makhtesh Ramon is the most accessible and the most developed for tourism. In saying that, you still enjoy the solitude and the unique experience of Mars-like desert scenery.

You can enjoy the Makhtesh Ramon scenery by car, or best, by hiking the many well-signed trails. There are some short day hikes and a few long hiking trails. One is the Makhtesh Ramon Circular Trail, an isolated desert walk, which takes up to eight days to complete. A more popular trail is the three days section of the Israel National Trail that walks along the northeast rim of the crater and crosses it from north to south. Moreover, the 2000 years old Nabatean Incense Route that goes all the way from the Arabian Peninsula through Petra, the capital of the ancient Nabatean Kingdom, crossing the Makhtesh Ramon and ends at the port of Gaza (the Israeli section of the Incense Route declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO).
