It's a Chilled time at work lately - since i'm also a student and need to finish my degree between taking you all around.
So I thought it's a great oppertunity to answer a question many people asked me : How do you become a tour guide in Israel?
Well, you are taking an intense 2 years course were you learn as much as you can about the land of Israel - includes Landscape , Geology , Zoology, History,Judaism,Islam , Christianity, and my favorite - Archeology , and tons of other things .
Once a week you have a tour starting 6:30am and finish around 19:00-21:00pm . multiply that in 84 tours .
then you take a time-off from your life and preping for about 3 months to a 6 hours long test where you answer 50 questions about what you've learned and writing a 2 days trip plan for a specific group , and writing everyting you will say or do in those 2 days .
if you passed- two months later you have an Oral exam in front of senior tour guides and tour agents for around 30-45 minutes where you a give a 10 minutes explanation about a site of your choice (mine was the Ethiopian Christianitys connection to Judaism , Haile Selassie and Rastafari religion , Check out the dreads I used to carry for over a year) .
Then they ask you questions about pretty much anything for 15-30 minutes.
If you passed that - Yay ! Now you have to do a language exam to make sure you are fluent enough , and different certifications for the programs you are guiding .
So yes , It's been a long (long) ride , how do you do that and manage to stay alive ?!
that brings me to the most important part of the Tour guide course - the people . in two years you get to meet such a variety of people and opinions .
and the true gift of this course are the people who are sitting next to you during this insane time. So Toda Raba to the unbelivable people who made that time counts (and bearable)
אני עף על הסיור שלי !
