🇮🇱✨ Rugelach: An Israeli pastry

There are many recipes to make Rugelach from scratch. However, here is a quick and easy recipe using Malawach.

👩‍🍳 Here's a recipe:
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
2. Roll out 2 pieces of Malawach dough into 10-inch circles.
3. Spread chocolate hazelnut spread on one circle, place the second circle on top, and spread more chocolate on top.
4. Cut into 16 triangles, roll them up, and place them in a greased baking dish.
5. Bake for 22-24 minutes until crisp and oozing.
6. While baking, make a sugar syrup by boiling ½ cup of water with ½ cup of sugar until dissolved.
7. Pour the syrup over the rugelach once baked and let them cool before eating.

✨🎄 Did someone say Christmas in July? 🎄✨

Bethlehem: where Jesus Christ, our Savior, was born over 2,000 years ago. Nestled in the Judean Hills, this sacred town holds a profound place in our hearts.

"And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." - Luke 2:7 (NKJV)

👼 Did You Know?
- The Church of the Nativity, built in the 4th century, marks the traditional site of Jesus' birth.
- The Grotto of the Nativity, located beneath the church, features a 14-point silver star marking the exact spot where it is believed that Christ was born.
- Bethlehem was prophesied as the birthplace of the Messiah in the Old Testament: "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the one to be Ruler over Israel..." - Micah 5:2 (NKJV)

🇮🇱✨ A traditional Israeli staple: Israeli Salad

Israeli Salad is a staple in Israel because of the simple, easy-to-grow ingredients– cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and parsley. The vegetables are always diced and create a base for ingredients being added.

👩‍🍳 Here's a recipe:
1. Dice 1 lb. of Persian Cucumbers and 1 lb. of ripe tomatoes.
2. Mince 1/3 cup of onion and ½ cup of parsley.
3. Add cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and parsley into a large mixing bowl.
4. Add 3 tablespoons olive oil, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, and ½ teaspoon of salt to the bowl with the vegetables. (You can also add lemon zest )
5. Mix all ingredients until all vegetables are evenly coated.

📜✨ Qumran: known for one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.

Located on the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea, in the Judean Desert between Jerusalem, Ein Gedi, and Masada, is Qumran. The place where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. These ancient manuscripts have provided invaluable insights into early Jewish history and the origins of Christianity.

Over 900 texts in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek were discovered, making the Dead Sea Scrolls the oldest manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible, including every book except for Esther and Nehemiah.

🇮🇱✨ Today, we're sharing a traditional Israeli dish: Shakshuka

Consisting of spiced stewed tomatoes topped with poached eggs, this dish is perfect for any meal of the day.

👩‍🍳 Here's a recipe:
1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry 1 chopped small onion until softened. Add 1 chopped red pepper, cook until softened, then add 6 crushed garlic cloves and cook until browned. Add 2 tbsp paprika, a pinch of cumin, and black pepper.
2. Stir in 3 tbsp tomato paste and cook until slightly browned. Add 5 chopped ripe tomatoes, ½ cup water, and 1 tsp salt. Simmer covered for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tomatoes soften.
3. Taste and adjust seasoning. Make wells in the sauce and crack 4 room temperature eggs into them. Arrange whites so yolks are below the sauce surface.
4. Cover and simmer until egg whites set, 5-8 minutes. Yolks should be opaque.
5. Serve with chopped parsley and bread. Avoid letting the shakshuka sit too long to keep yolks from solidifying.

🙌The Southern Steps in Israel: A Significant Site in Christianity

The Southern Steps, located on the southern side of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, are an essential historical and religious site in Christianity. These steps are believed to have been a primary access point for entering the Temple Mount.

Given its central role as an entrance to the Temple, it is highly probable that Jesus and other rabbis of the time taught and engaged with crowds here.

“Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.” – Luke 21: 37-38

“The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.” – Matthew 21:14

Falafel: An Israeli Classic 🇮🇱✨

👩‍🍳 Authentic Israeli Falafel Recipe:
1. Soak 2 cups dried chickpeas in water overnight. Add ½ tsp of baking soda to the soaking water to help soften the chickpeas. Drain and rinse. (Using canned chickpeas will not result in the crispy authentic texture)
2. Blend soaked chickpeas, 5 cloves chopped garlic, ½ small chopped onion, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp paprika, and ½ tsp salt until finely ground.
3. Soak 1 slice bread in water, drain, crumble, and add to the mixture. Process until coarse and moist. (You can opt to use ½ cup breadcrumbs instead with no soaking required)
4. Add ½ cup chopped cilantro, ½ cup chopped parsley, and 1 tbsp sesame seeds. Mix until finely textured.
5. Transfer to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight.
6. Stir in 1 tsp baking soda. Form small balls with wet hands.
7. Heat 3” canola oil on medium-high. Fry falafel balls for 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Serve with pita, tomato, cucumber, hummus, tahini, or spicy sauce.

Sea of Galilee: The place where Jesus performed many miracles and had many teachings.

This peaceful body of water holds profound significance for nearly 70% of Jesus’s ministry.

Jesus walked on water (Matthew 14:22-33)
It was here that Peter also walked on water. However, taking his eyes off Jesus he began to sink. “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.”

Jesus calmed the sea (Mark 4:35-41)
His words "Peace, be still" continue to resonate, offering solace and hope in times of turbulence.

Jesus makes fishers of men (Matthew 4: 18-20)
Their journey from fishermen to disciples reflects the transformative power of meeting the Messiah. “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”

Whether you sail its serene waters, walk along its peaceful shores, or simply pause to reflect, the Sea of Galilee invites us to experience the presence of the Divine.

Join us on a journey to this sacred sea and immerse yourself in its beauty, history, and spiritual significance. 🌅⛵
