In Israel, a river (nachal) is not always what you expect.

A nachal can lie dry and silent for months, then suddenly become a rushing torrent. That dramatic contrast shaped not only the land, but also the language and imagery of the Bible.

And there is more hidden in these waters: from rivers bringing life wherever they flow -as we see in Eden and Ezekiel’s vision- to the Jordan marking moments of transition: Israel crossing into the Promised Land, Elisha stepping into his calling, and Jesus beginning His ministry.

Follow along as we journey through the rivers of Israel and discover what they reveal in Scripture.

Again and again, the mountains of Scripture are where response and active commitment is demanded.

At Sinai: Will you follow God?
At Carmel: Will you serve Him alone?
At Gerizim: Will you choose blessing?
At the Mount of Beatitudes: Will you embrace the values of God’s Kingdom?
At Moriah: Will you obey when you don’t understand?

We’re still being asked those same questions, and the mountains of Israel remind us of that.

Will you join me?
Will you take the risk, without knowing the path?
Will you serve and sacrifice?
Will you speak up?

The prophets looked ahead to the day when the nations would say:

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord… He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.” (Isaiah 2:2–3)
