It seems Santa made Barbados his last stop on Christmas Eve and decided to stay on for "Season" (Winter on the beautiful island in the Caribbean).

If you live in one of the COLD northern climates, maybe you should consider doing the same. You might even run into Santa on the beach there!

And while on Barbados in January, be sure to experience the annual Barbados Independent Film Festival - great films at great venues. For more info, go to https://barbadosfilmfest.org or their page at https://www.facebook.com/Barbadosfilmfest/

For more information on what to see and do on the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados and/or putting together a group tour during "Season", contact [email protected].

Some important Barbados History from today's "Delancy Place":

As much as oil in the 20th century, sugar would dominate trade and commerce globally in the 16th and 17th centuries, and spawn a renewed and vastly expanded slave trade. First the Portuguese (then Dutch) possessions in Brazil became the world's wealthiest through sugar. Then young Englishman James Drax imported the industry into the British possession of Barbados, and it, and next the British colony of Jamaica, became the wealthiest possessions of the British Empire:
------
"As soon as Drax's first competent Barbados sugar arrived on the London market, it yielded a far higher profit than any other American commodity, fetching as much as £5 per hundredweight. Drax reckoned it increased his income per acre fourfold over any other crop.

"The stunning success of his experiment would see James Drax and his heirs -- as well as other families -- accrue fortunes beyond their wildest dreams. More than that, it would decisively affect the course of history, the fate of empires and the lives of millions. Most immediately, however, it would radically alter the nature of the 15-year-old colony in Barbados."

Today's selection -- from The Sugar Baron's by Matthew Parker. As much as oil in the 20th century, sugar would dominate trade and commerce globally in the 16th and 17th centuries, and spawn a renewed and vastly expanded...

Any year is a good time to visit Barbados. January-February is best, because, while it's "season", there are more activities to enjoy! AND, while it's cold, rainy, and possibly snowy in Israel, it's sunny and warm in beautiful Barbados.

I'm ready to put together a tour group for January 2020. Contact me at [email protected] for more information and to sign up!

Barbados is a wonderfully charming Caribbean island with much to see and do.

In the 15th & 16th centuries, Jews from the Iberian Peninsula, fleeing the Inquisition, arrived in Recife, Brazil and from there, went on to Barbados. They had learned from the Dutch the skill of the windmill, so upon settling on the island of Barbados, they put that skill to work in the sugar cane plantations, helping to extract the sugar from the cane.

Enjoy this video of photos taken of the remains of 90 of the over 500 sugar cane windmills that once dotted the landscape of beautiful Barbados.

If you want to see more, join one of the Israeli tours to Barbados to see some of these amazing structures up close! We'll visit plantations, stop at roadside to explore some of them, walk through cane fields, and visit a sugar cane mill. Contact [email protected] for more information.
