“Living and teaching in Bat Yam for the past 10 months has been the most influential time of my life. While feels like I stepped off the plane moments ago, yesterday I watched my 12th graders graduate high school, more ready than ever to move onto bigger things. This year has taught me to live life to the fullest, laugh more, and as always לזרום (go with the flow). As an elementary school teacher in the US, I was nervous to teach in a high school, but I felt nothing but love and comfort since day one. I’ve prepped my students for their bagrut exams, and read, written, and spoken with every student at the school. I’ve seen how every little conversation can improve their English skills, and how I’ve improved my teaching skills as well. This year on MITF has been the best year of my life, and while watching my students grow, I’ve grown to be more confident in who I am, and am ready for anything life throws my way. Meet the host teachers! 🤩📚🏫
Orit Evven-Chen, Reut Primary School, Rishon LeZion

“It is my privilege and blessing to take part of Masa Israel Teaching Fellows as a host teacher. Katherine O'Neill and Edward Daniel are my brilliant English teaching assistants in Reut Primary school in Rishon Lezion this year. The main goals of the program as I can see it is to enhance the English learning environment by using native English-speaking teachers and thus to raise the English level of our 5th and 6th Grade students. Must say that both goals were highly achieved with a great impact on my student's lives because both Katherine and Edward brought their creative and passionate personality and abilities into our classes. Also, they both have showed a great motivation and independence in the learning environment they have created and were very encouraging towards their students in their learning. They have taught a group of students aiming towards all that was needed for tests and more. They have used the school's English course books as well as adapted the curriculum with their own creative teaching style via drama, art, technology, writings, games and more. They have done some extra learning activities such as Reut school Newspaper on a digital platform, Genius Hour project and more. They have planned and organized an English day with all 5th and 6th students which was a great success and the highlight of the year. Also, must note that their teaching style was based on mutual respect and love for education and their relationship with both the school staff and the students were built on trust, respect and care. They were very comfortable around children and very communicative. Together we ran staff meetings in which we talked about curriculum, tests and the progress of the students.
I strongly recommend that program if only for the love of Israel and education.”

Meet the host teachers! 🤩📚🏫

Sima, Darca Hamer, Bat Yam - “Towards the end of the year I wanted to share a summary of the experience of hosting the amazing fellow - Alex Spadacenta at Darca Hamer in Bat Yam this year as part of the Masa Israel Teaching Fellows program.

Since the beginning of the year she made warm and pleasant connections with the students. To her credit, she has helped enable student students to advanced their skills in reading, reading comprehension, and of course speaking.
Alex has initiated many educational projects, and even built us lesson plans for our new curriculum. Alex is full of creativity, wisdom and Israeliness.
We appreciate her and thank her for the positive impact she has made to the English program at our school.
I'm glad I have been privileged to take part on her Israel journey and also be a part of a mission of an entire country to impact thousands of students in Israel.”

“MITF is a great way to immerse in Israel for an extended period of time. I am originally from London, and while I have visited Israel each year to see family, nothing has been like this past year. Living in israel and having been able to make such a big impact has been invaluable. I have made amazing new memories and experienced so many wonderful things along the way. Of course there are always challenging days but equally there are days where you have the best experiences ever. It is definitely worth it. I found the programme by pure chance and luck, knew nobody that had done it before or that was doing it with me, and I am so glad I took that chance! Try it yourself, and move to Rishon (it's the best!)”
