For nearly 1,000 years, the Balm of Gilead was the most precious and sought-after plant in the world. Cultivated exclusively in the Dead Sea region by Hebrew farmers, it was renowned for its extraordinary qualities and value.
But by the 6th century, for various reasons, this legendary plant was lost to history—its cultivation forgotten for centuries.
Fast forward to today: when Guy Erlich left his home in Jerusalem to start a new chapter by the Dead Sea, he stumbled upon the story of the Balm of Gilead. For him, it wasn’t just a story—it became a mission. Determined to revive this ancient treasure, he set out to bring the Balm of Gilead back to life.
This mission has blossomed into a thriving farm, and today, I had the privilege of visiting it with a wonderful group during our day tour to the Dead Sea. It was an inspiring journey into history, innovation, and the beauty of rediscovering the past.
