The Dead Sea has been a tourist attraction for thousands of years, but in the last 60 years it has been changing dramatically as its water sources have been diverted.

As always, there are unexpected consequences - this video shows the beauty that has emerged from the dying Dead Sea.

Hopefully we can find a balance - preserve the Sea as well as the newfound beauty of the sinkholes.

There are about 6,500 sinkholes in the area which caused devastation in their wake.

Israel has seen the first rains of the winter!
While rainy weather can make touring the country more of a challenge, I'm glad that we're replenishing our water supply. Until recently, Israel's water supply came largely from the Kinneret and aquifers; as a result, a national obsession with the level of the Kinneret was born.
While Israel has since become the world leader in desalination, the Kinneret is faring badly after several below-average rainy seasons. Let's hope that this winter puts an end to that!
