Tisha B’Av: A Day of National Grief – Then and Now 🕯️
Today is the 9th of Av — Tisha B’Av — the saddest day on the Jewish calendar.
It marks the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem. It’s a day of fasting, mourning, and reflection. A day when Jewish pain echoes through time.
This year, Tisha B’Av carries an even deeper weight.
On October 7th, 2023 — we witnessed one of the most devastating attacks on the Jewish people in recent history. More than 1,200 lives were tragically lost in southern Israel in a coordinated assault by Hamas. The impact was profound: families torn apart, communities left reeling, and a nation grieving deeply.
As we mourn past destructions, we also grieve the horrors of today, and we carry the memory of every soul lost. May this day remind us not just of our sorrow, but of our strength. Am Yisrael Chai. 💔🇮🇱
