The war with Iran is over. Israelis have left the shelters and safe rooms and are now doing what we do best- having fun. Hopefully soon we’ll be able to celebrate the end of the Gaza war and the return of the hostages. ❤️🇮🇱

Tel Aviv now has a park, Park Hof, both for walking and cycling, along its entire length. I recently checked out the section between the Tel Baruch beach and the Yarkon River. This is an easy, flat section recently opened. It passes the Reading Power Station and clear beaches lined with wild flowers. It ends at what was once a lighthouse which now serves as a cafe. If you cross the bridge over the Yarkon River you get to the old Tel Aviv Port and then onto the Tel Aviv Promenade. It’s truely a beautiful quiet spot to chill out without even leaving the city. 🇮🇱❤️

During peacetime the Sar-El organization brings foreign volunteers to work on army bases. When the current war started on October 7, 2023, airlines cancelled flights and foreign volunteers stopped coming. At this point Sar-El asked for daily Israeli volunteers and I joined. When foreigners came back about six months ago the Israelis weren’t called up anymore for daily volunteering. Suddenly two weeks ago we were, so here I am again preparing field rations. 🇮🇱❤️

It’s a tour I wish I didn’t have to do but it’s a necessary one and the two families from London I took agreed. I’m speaking of course about the October 7th memorial sites. We saw the Nova Festival site, the Car Graveyard, the Sderot Police Station Memorial and viewed the movie of the events that took place at the police station that day. On a much more positive note we also stopped by the Shuva Brothers Soldier Station at Moshav Shuva. There Dror Trabelsi, one of the three brothers who started the station, gave us an explanation about how the place is a stopping point for soldiers going into or coming out of Gaza. The station provides free meals, drinks and medicines and other equipment the soldiers might need. The station works entirely on donations and is staffed by volunteers- truely inspiring! We ended the day at the Sderot Observation Point overlooking the border between Israel and Gaza. 🇮🇱❤️

Last night and today is Memorial Day in Israel. Today we honor and remember all the soldiers who fell defending our country and the civilians who were murdered in terrorist attacks. Sirens will sound at 11:00 AM and the the country will come to a standstill for two minutes. עם ישראל חי, Am Yisrael Hai, the People of Israel Lives 🇮🇱 #יוםהזיכרוןלחללימערכותישראל

In 1892 the Ottomans built a railroad line from Jaffa to Jerusalem. By the 1990s the railroad became obsolete and trains stopped running. A few years ago the Tel Aviv municipality took a part of the derelict area which still had tracks and turned it into a great urban park, called Park Hamesilah, or train track park. It’s another jewel in Tel Aviv’s crown. It’s great for strolling, biking and of course people watching 😏 🇮🇱❤️

Most of my tourists who visit Akko concentrate on the Crusader city which lies below the old city, which is a great place to see. However many miss exploring the old city above with its Ottoman architecture, Al Jazar Mosque, (open to non-moslems), its port where you can either take a slow ride in the ocean to view the city from a different angle or take a speed boat for the thrill of it. Another great area to explore are the city's ramparts which helped turn back Napolean when he tried to conquer Akko. And of course there's the market. My favorite restaurant, on the edge of the old city, is Roots, great and interesting dishes situated in a beautiful historic building. 🇮🇱❤️

Today I participated in a study day for tour guides in the most ancient section of Jerusalem, the City of David. The topic was new excavations and changes that have recently taken place. Most of what we saw is not yet open to the public. We saw sections from the First Temple period dating back to the 9th century BCE, the unearthed Pilgrim’s Road, the below the surface foundation stones for the Second Temple and heard new theories about the Shiloah Pool. It was an extremely interesting and informative day. I try to include a visit to the City of David when taking tourists to Jerusalem. Now my tours there will be even better!

Most Israelis and tourists have been to Caesarea National Park, and I put it on my itineraries for first time visitors. However, as I learned on a study day for tour guides, there is a lot to be discovered outside the borders of the park. Even within the park there have been new excavations and revelations. I’m now even better equipped to guide at the port city which King Herod built. 🇮🇱❤️
