Last night Israel lost maybe the biggest, most known singer it ever had.
How can I compare it to anything…? It's like loosing one of the beatles.
My parents used to listen to him in the 70's (which were the Israeli version to the the American 60's) and me and my friends grew up listening to his children tapes and later on, to the music our parents listen to, thinking of better, simpler times, hoping for peace.
Arik was in show business since he was 18, singing and preforming, entertaining soldier troops as his military service (yes, if you are really good they let you do that in the IDF).
Ever since he kept on recording music untill his last days, everything from ballads, through children songs, to rock'nroll.
I am very sad today.
My friends and I were talking yesterday about how it feels. It's like loosing a part from your childhood and as if you barry your old secret youth dreams, from when you allowed yourself to truly hope for peace. Back from the time were our parents used to tell us that maybe, when we will grow up, we won't have to go to the military.
Rest in peace Arik Einstein. Your music is in our hearts and will always be a part of our story.
Yehi Zichrecha Baruch, be your memory blessed.
