Today is Ganesh Chaturthi, the birth anniversary of LORD GANESHA, according to hindu mythology lord Ganesha was born on this auspicious day, the legend is once Lord Shiva had beheaded his son Ganesha in anger, later as penance he attached the head of an elephant baby was to his torso and in this way Lord Ganesha found his life again. Although the festival is celebrated all across the country but it is the biggest festival in the state of Maharashtra, The festival begins with the installation of Ganesha idols in the house and temple on the day of Chaturthi. Devotees bring Ganesha idols to their homes with great fanfare by playing drums and dance their way home, for the next 10 days, people worship Lord Ganesha in their homes and temples, singing songs, dancing, chanting mantras, performing aarti and offering modaks (sweets) to Ganesha , On on the 11th day, with Ganesh Visarjan (immersion of the clay idol in river/sea), Lord Ganesha is sent off with prayers for his arrival the next year, it’s a festival full of processions with loud music and dancing on the streets, it’s a Carnival atmosphere all around !

A cute depiction of young lord Krishna !

Shree Krishna Janmashthmi – is the birth celebration of lord Krishna, believed to be the most perfect incarnation of lord Vishnu.

The childhood stories of Krishna are truly enchanting, he was a prankster who would steal the freshly churned butter from each household and one of his 108 names is ‘Makhanchor’ meaning the ‘butter thief’.

Equally enchanting is the story of his birth, his parents were imprisoned by his deamon maternal uncle Kansa as he was forewarned by his astrologer that his would be killed by the eight son born to his sister and Kansa had planned to killed the son as soon as he was born but he was miraculously saved.
Krishna devotees would fast for the day until the time of the god’s birth at midnight, temples would be decorated with Jhankis (Tableaus) depicting different stages of lord Krishna’s life, young children will be dressed up as Krishna avatars for the occasion, singing, praying, dancing to Krishna hymns can be witnessed across all Krishna temples in the country.
