EARLY RULERS & DYNASTIES OF INDIA
The Indus Valley Civilization
(Ancient India History)
India’s journey as a great civilization began thousands of years ago. Long before kings and empires, the land witnessed one of the most advanced cultures of the ancient world.
Indus Valley Civilization (c. 2500–1700 BCE)
The Indus Valley Civilization is considered one of the world’s oldest and most developed civilizations. It flourished along the banks of the Indus River and laid the foundation of urban life in the Indian subcontinent.
Major cities such as Harappa and Mohenjo daro were well planned, with straight roads, advanced drainage systems, brick houses, and organized marketplaces. Although no clear evidence of kings or royal palaces has been found, the civilization showed strong administrative planning and social order.
People of this era were skilled in agriculture, pottery, trade, and craftsmanship. They traded with distant regions and followed a peaceful, organized way of life. The Indus Valley Civilization reflects India’s early excellence in town planning, engineering, and culture.
This ancient civilization marks the beginning of India’s long and rich historical journey.
