Hornbill Festival is known for its music, food, traditions and the many Naga tribes that come together at Kisama.

But there’s another side to it: competitions that you probably wouldn’t expect at a cultural festival.

From eating Naga King Chilly and pineapple to spear throwing, catapult target hitting, horn blowing and log cutting — these competitions bring traditional skills, local produce and indigenous games into the spotlight.

And that’s what makes Hornbill interesting. There’s always something happening beyond the obvious.

A new name is stepping into the spotlight in Uttarakhand.

Dyalishera Trek has been selected as the Trek of the Year 2026 — a lesser-explored Himalayan trail in Chamoli, now being promoted under a special state tourism campaign.

And there’s another reason to look at it now: the first 300 trekkers are eligible for a ₹2,000 government subsidy*.

But beyond the title and the incentive, it’s the trail itself that makes Dyalishera worth discovering — deodar and rhododendron forests, expansive Himalayan bugyals, high-altitude landscapes and Dyalī Bugyal at around 3,600 m.

The mountains are calling. This time, to a trail that’s only just beginning to get the attention it deserves.

*Subsidy is subject to the applicable government scheme terms and eligibility.
