Meteora, Greece
Caves in the vicinity of Metéora were inhabited continuously between 50,000 and 5,000 years ago. The oldest known example of a man-made structure, a stone wall that blocked two-thirds of the entrance to the Theopetra Cave, was constructed 23,000 years ago, probably as a barrier against cold winds – the Earth was experiencing an ice age at the time – and many Paleolithic and Neolithic artifacts have been found within the caves

The world's largest natural mirror
Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa) is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi). It is located in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3,656 meters (11,995ft) above mean sea level.

The Salar was formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes. It is covered by a few meters of salt crust, which has an extraordinary flatness with the average altitude variations within one meter over the entire area of the Salar. The crust serves as a source of salt and covers a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in lithium. It contains 50 to 70% of the world's lithium reserves, which is in the process of being extracted. The large area, clear skies, and the exceptional flatness of the surface make the Salar an ideal object for calibrating the altimeters of Earth observation satellites.

The Salar serves as the major transport route across the Bolivian Altiplano and is a major breeding ground for several species of flamingos. Salar de Uyuni is also a climatological transitional zone since the towering tropical cumulus congestus and cumulonimbus incus clouds that form in the eastern part of the salt flat during the summer cannot permeate beyond its drier western edges, near the Chilean border and the Atacama Desert.

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is known for its centuries-old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences. At its heart is the chaotic Old Quarter, where the narrow streets are roughly arranged by trade. There are many little temples, including Bach Ma, honoring a legendary horse, plus D**g Xuan market, selling household goods and street food.

Bodrum

Although more than a million tourists flock to its beaches, boutique hotels and clubs each summer, Bodrum (Halicarnassus in ancient times) never loses its cool. More than any other Turkish seaside getaway, it has an enigmatic elegance that pervades it, from the town's grand crowning castle and glittering marina to its flower-filled cafes and white-plastered backstreets. Even in the most hectic days of high summer, you can still find little corners of serenity, in the town and especially in its outlying coastal villages.
Only in the past few decades has Bodrum come to be associated with pleasure, paradisical beaches and glittering summertime opulence. Previously, it was a simple fishing village, and old-timers can still remember when everything was in a different place or didn't exist at all. Long before the palmed promenades and epicurean seafood restaurants, Bodrum wasn't even desirable: it was the place where dissidents against the new Turkish republic were sent into exile.
All that started to change after one of the inmates took over the prison. Writer Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı (aka the 'Fisherman of Halicarnassus') was exiled to sleepy Bodrum in 1925, and quickly fell in love with the place. After serving his time, he proceeded to turn on a whole generation of Turkish intellectuals, writers and artists to Bodrum's charms in the mid-1940s.
From then on, there was no going back: by the 1980s, well-heeled foreigners were starting to come, and today Bodrum is a favourite getaway for everyone from European package tourists to Turkey's prime movers and shakers. But it was Kabaağaçlı's early influence, giving the town its arty identity, which saved it from the ignominious fate of other Turkish fishing-villages-turned-resorts.
Urban planners have also sought to preserve Bodrum's essential Aegean character, which was influenced by the Cretans who moved here during the population exchange of the 1920s. Today, laws restrict buildings' heights, and the whitewashed houses with bright-blue trim evoke a lost era. The evocative castle and the ancient ruins and Ottoman mosques around town also help keep Bodrum a discerning step above the rest.

Zagreb
Capital of Croatia
Zagreb, capital of the Republic of Croatia, is also its largest city and the cultural, economic, cinematic, sporting and governmental hub of the country. It is located on the southern slopes of Medvednica Mountain along the banks of the Sava River. Culturally, it is a European city well worth visiting, with its numerous historical monuments and medieval architecture. Its favourable geographic positioning in the Pannonian Basin gives the city instant access to Central Europe and the Adriatic coast. Maybe that's why, for many years, it has remained the economic gateway connecting Central and Western Europe via the Adriatic Sea.
When Croatia achieved independence in 1991, Zagreb was declared the capital and along with it came political and administrative responsibilities. Today, the city has maintained its medieval structure in the Gradec and Kaptol area, which are prime administrative regions of the city. On the other hand, the residential area is located on the southern slopes of the Medvednica Mountains. From the 1950's, when the city started developing technologically, the industries started concentrating their base on the south and south east of the Sava River.
Besides being a major commercial and economical centre, it is also developing into a famed tourist destination. The city attracts many tourists from Austria, Germany and Italy who come to visit the beaches and explore its historical monuments, museums, and art galleries. From a youngster's point of view, the city offers a happening nightlife, plenty of restaurants and cafés and lots of cinema theatres that screen Hollywood films.
Today, it is the only city in Croatia with a population of over one million. Yet, as the city advances into the new millennium, it has retained its old charisma and welcoming attitude towards foreign visitors.

Ahmedabad has a rich cultural history and boasts of many structures that hold a place of prominence. Among the various structures of historical importance, Sidi Saiyad ki jali, Adalaj ni Vav, Hathisingh na Mandir and Sabarmati Ashram are the most prominent. But, the list of attractions in Ahmedabad is incomplete without a mention of Lake Kankaria.

Situated in the heart of Ahmedabad, this lake was built more than 550 years ago. This lake, a symbol of royalty, was used by kings as their bath area. But with passage of time, its glory waned and people stopped thronging to this beautiful lake. All this changed when the authorities decided to refurbish the dilapidated structure and provide facilities at the site. The revamped structure with all the glory and grandeur restored was opened to the public on December 25, 2008. A week long carnival ensued that year at the lake-front with attractions like a Balloon safari, zorbing, boating, toy train and segway, which drew people from all age groups. Today, this lake has become one of the most favoured hangout places for Amdavadis. With several food joints around the lake serving snacks, this place serves as a perfect picnic spot for families that wish to spend quality time together.

The carnival in its 7th year has become one of the most awaited events of the year for a state that is known as the land of fairs and festivals. More than 2.5 crore people have visited the carnival since its inception in 2008. This year, the number was around 25 lakh for this week-long gala. The state’s Revenue Minister Anandi Patel inaugurated this year’s carnival. The main attraction of the carnival was an audio-visual performance in which more than 100 students took part. The other attractions of the carnival included scuba diving, aero-modelling, aqua scripting, magic shows and performances by a rock band and stand-up comedians. Around 500 cultural performances took place during the week which included dance shows, garba and other forms of entertainment. Like all previous editions, the entry to this year’s carnival was kept free, so that people from all walks of life could come, enjoy and be a part of this mega carnival. People could be seen in high spirits enjoying the rides and performances at the lake front.
