Cholaphali/Choraphari is a quintessential and unique gujarati street food!

Hand-Carts (Called 'Laahris' in Gujarati) are seen in selling these deep-fried, puffed chips/wafers/crisps!

Made out of chick-pea flour, turmeric, red-chilli powder and other Indian Masalas, the dough is rolled out and thin strips are cut out, which are then deep fried. They puff up as soon as put in the hot oil!

Cholaphali is accompanied by a mint and corriander chutney.

Ahmedabad, like any other Indian city has a great influence of Mughal Architecture and this has resulted in some of the most stunning Masjids (Mosques) with intricate stone carvings.

Pictured here is the Rani Sipri's Mosque (Rani Sipri ni Masjid) which was commissioned by Rani (Queen) Sipri who was a Hindu princess married to a Sultan, Mohammed Begada. She commissioned the building of this Masjid in 1514 A.D. after the Sultan executed their son.

The batter for these fritters is made from chick-pea flour, water and Indian Masalas like Turmeric and Red Chilli Powder.

The usually fillings are sliced potatoes or sliced onions or fenugreek leaves or a mashed potato stuffing with Indian spices.

Since these are deep-friend and eaten piping hot, they are usually consumed in the evenings or late nights when the weather is cooler.
