Only a few dozen pilots are certified to fly into Bhutan’s Paro Airport. But after navigating a radarless Himalayan valley, they face a strict rule: landing with a full fuel tank is impossible.

The restriction against landing with a heavy fuel load comes down to a harsh combination of physics and geography.

First, Paro sits at an elevation of over 7,300 feet above sea level. At this altitude, the air is noticeably thinner than at sea level. Because thin air generates less lift, aircraft must approach the runway at significantly higher true airspeeds to stay flying. When an airplane touches down at a higher speed, it needs considerably more distance to decelerate. Paro’s runway is remarkably short for a high-altitude airport, measuring just under 7,500 feet long. If an aircraft were burdened with the massive weight of a full fuel tank, the momentum of that heavy mass combined with the high approach speed would require far more stopping distance than the runway provides, virtually guaranteeing a runway overrun.

ഇന്ന് രാജേഷ് തകഴിയെ കണ്ടു..
കണ്ടെന്നല്ല എന്റെ ട്രാവൽ വിത്ത് മിയുടെ ഓഫീസിലേക്ക് ഒരു സർപ്രൈസ് എൻട്രി.
ദീർഘനാളെത്തെ ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ് ന്യൂസ് ക്യാമറാമാൻ എന്ന ജോലിയിൽ നിന്നും പിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു,
