This corner.

This room used to be the underdog of the house — too small to be a proper double, with nothing in its bones to flaunt or upgrade.

So we rotated the paintings, repainted the cracked floor and those dull walls every season, and told ourselves it’s semi-decent.

Then last year, Kichu suggested we add some movie posters and a bit of lighting. I said yes — because honestly, I couldn’t think of a better idea.

What followed were weeks (and months) of DIY madness: vinyl flooring, layers of putty and paint, Kichu designing, printing, and framing fan posters of our favourite films, stringing up lights, and making countless tiny upgrades and extras.

Now? We’re finally proud of this little room. We tell ourselves we did a decent job.

Can’t believe we haven’t unveiled this beauty of a door yet. Hand painted by our now global artist overnight (we all tried to give her company but one by one, we dozed off and woke up to the sunset dream almost completed)! It’s a story you’ll hear all about when you visit House in the Beach next.

So we made some extensive upgrades to the property last year, right before the season, and it was the most elaborate project we undertook, ever. And oh so pretty!🥹

We thought we’ll start small and ordered some supplies on Amazon. And one by one, the items delivered and the real scale of what we committed ourselves to dawned on us.

Take the case of the fancy lights we found online for the backyard. A quick impulsive purchase just because it was on sale and we had talked about improving the backyard once. But once the lights arrived, we knew we have to install a cozy little pargola (kinda, we just call it panthal) outside so the lights can march the setting. And that also meant we had to fix the table, and the old sun beds, and make the backyard pretty to pull the lights off. And the project also involved snagging a lovely wooden wind home set to hang in the ‘panthal’ and make pretty sounds. And a new stand for the new hammock. And some plant shopping because we could really visualise bamboos on the corner. The details kept getting added and the project took us months! But that’s a picture and story for another day.

This stunning art on the door is inspired by the lighthouse, the orange glow of sunset sky, and matches with the beet red and orange leaves of the ancient Thallimaran leaning on to that corner.

It is an orange corner on some blessed evenings and this painting captures all the right feels.

It will soon be almost a year since we got this done and I am horrified we didn’t share this yet!

You know what they say about better being late to it than never doing it.

Little Buddhas 🥹✨

Meet Len & Ogyen, hands down the gentlest, politest kids we ever hosted. You know how Teddy is such a Zen dog, but these kids made him look like a little rowdy.

Hosting their family of four was truly a pleasure, and every exchange with them was heartwarming. So thoughtful, so adorable, so kind and trusting - this family ought to be protected at all costs!

P.S. When I commented to their mom that the kids are the gentlest little people I have ever came across, she joked that someone called them Little Buddhas on their travels. Accurate to a 💯! Gave us so much Yodha vibes while they were her, hence the choice of music. If you know, you know!

A nearly perfect reading nook, ain’t it?✨

Packing a beach read is always a good idea, we agree! Especially so if you are seeking to spend some quality time at a cozy beach stay like ours. The sounds of waves lapping in the background, soft sunshine and comforting shade, the lazy lull of the hammock, and the purest of vibes to soak in…! Need I say more?

It was a true delight hosting this girl gang! Can’t wait to have you over again, Sophia.

Pretty evenings like these ✨

It’s a busy season here! Back-to-back guests, travelers with adventure stories we shan’t run out in one night, familiar favorites, kindest strangers…we have our calendar full and our hearts dancing.

Picture taken by these gracious guests who left a note in the bedroom for us to find. I wouldn’t hype up a guest but this was a handwritten note, front and back, and it was left in these cute DIY envelopes!!

After a lot of oohing and aahing, the note went straight to our treasure chest. Yup, we have one. And, it’s brimming already.

What a year this has been. Looking forward to this Xmas and New Year’s !

Paw-host. He takes his job very seriously.

He has embraced the hosting lifestyle since he was a 2-month-old puppy newly brought home. He gets genuinely confused if there are no new visitors lavishing attention on him for more than 2 days in a row. He gives me that look I take to mean ‘what woman, why aren’t we accepting guests anymore, are we no longer the ‘it’ place? You know I can’t handle being unpopular’! He’s right, he was born to be adored, there is no other way.

Teddy is in his element when he has a bunch of people around him for him to entertain and love. He’s our ultimate vibe-checker. If he’s vary of someone new (which happens very rarely), it alerts us to something potentially amiss.

Teddy gets special mentions in our guest reviews. He features heavily in the pictures taken. We get messages and calls from guests weeks after they left, checking in on Teddy. Telling us how they miss him.

We got lucky with this one. He’s pretty much pawfect!

Our charming traveler’s guesthouse in Alleppey is also home to over three dozen stunning pieces of art. And we sometimes feel like we would be so lost without them.

Someday, we wish to open a dedicated art gallery but in the meanwhile, enjoy our modest spaces with gorgeous art on the wall.

Bringing this corridor to life is botanical illustration pieces by our very own . Thank you for this thoughtful gift, you lovely human. It is deeply cherished and much appreciated.

P.S. Whenever I walk past this door, I take a peek inside just to breath in this gorgeousness. It’s like pinching myself to confirm it is indeed there. That it is all real.

We can’t keep calm coz we are brimming with updates! We are open again!!!

To our lovely fam who kept asking us when we’ll be ready to host them again, the answer is now. In fact, there is no better time than now.

There’s brand new corners to hang out, gorgeous art on display on the wall, tastefully themed spaces, a fully-stocked kitchen and a maestro chechi to whip up ‘thani naadan’ delicacies of your choice, and of course, your favorite hosts waiting for you here!

We are in love with how the space look now and we can’t wait to show off. More pressingly, we can’t wait for you to soak in the experience we have spent so many weeks curating specifically for you.

Someone favorite once said ‘House in the beach is a vibe, bro’, and we can’t put it any better than that.
