Kerala is certainly the most talked about destination when India tourism is discussed. The state is replete with beautiful places that show nature as well as culture at its best. Therefore, it is indeed a good idea to plan a holiday in Kerala. In case, you also have Kerala in mind for your next vacation, this blog here can be of help to you. When you are visiting an Indian state, it is mandatory to touch all its aspect in a tour; so the same goes for Kerala as well. We suggest you keep good 10 days in hand to explore the different flavours of this rich state. This blog will brief you on places that you should add in Kerala tour plan, so as to make your holiday quite a memorable one....

Thiruvananthapuram-Varkala-Kollam-Aranmula-Ponmudi-Thiruvananthapuram

South of Kerala has lot of delightful places for you to relish. Do you know even if you are skipping Alappuzha and Kochi , giants of tourism attraction in Kerala, you can still have an amazing holiday in the state. No kidding, try this above mentioned tourism circuit in Kerala for an experience that only few people are familiar with. Starting your trip with Thiruvananthapuram is a good idea. And then you can move towards north and in the same district you can enjoy a quiet vacation at the coastal town of Varkala (some 37 kms from Trivandrum). After a peaceful stay at this seaside town, you can visit another beautiful seaport town, Kollam. Known for its pristine beaches, Kollam is an ideal place in India for beach lovers. From here, you can even choose the legendary backwater cruise to Alleppey, however, I am replacing it with equally beautiful destination of Aranmula. Famed for its boat race during Onam festival in August or September, Aranmula sits next to the meandering River Pamba. So, you see, without even visiting Alappuzha/Alleppey you can still relish the charm of backwaters and cruising in it.Since this circuit breaks the cliched tour plan, I would add another underrated yet interesting destination to the circuit, Ponmudi. This lovely hill station is ideal, in case you want to skip Munnar. Some 134 kms south of Aranmula, Ponmudi boasts rich tea estates and beautiful hill resorts. It is an ideal destination for those seeking respite from the hot and humid climate. From Ponmudi, you can get back to Thiruvananthapuram and enjoy sightseeing and a day or two stay there as well.

Kochi-Alappuzha-Kumarakom-Munnar-Periyar- Kollam-Thiruvananthapuram
Alappuzha

This one is probably an ideal tourism circuit in Kerala, however, I can never ignore the fact that almost all the places in Kerala have great tourism potentials. Anyway, let’s get back to the topic! So, like I said, this is by far the full-proof tried and tested Kerala vacation plan. You land at Kochi, a major city in Kerala that is also famous for its Chinese Fishing Nets and then after spending a day or two exploring its diversity, you can leave for the famous and of course beautiful Alappuzha, which I think needs no introduction now. Enjoy the beauty of Alleppey and the houseboat stay in the backwaters, for which Alleppey is famous. However, for houseboat accommodation, you can also choose Kumarakom that is situated close to Alleppey is lesser known.

Kumarakom

From backwaters to hill station, a journey between Kumarakom and Munnar (152 kms) will be one of its kind. Munnar as everyone knows is a beautiful hill station known for its tea estates and landscape beauty. It is ideal to spend at least two-three days at this place to enjoy sightseeing as well as trekking. Another great destination that can make this tour to Kerala a memorable one would be Periyar. An important wildlife reserve in Kerala, Periyar National Park is ideal for both wildlife lovers as well as nature aficionados. One can enjoy jungle safaris and a stay amidst the forest to relish the experience of being here.
Kollam would be the next ideal destination on this Kerala tourism circuit. The coastal town is situated south of Periyar and is some 150 kms away. Kollam is a perfect choice for an awesome beach holiday before one concludes the trip at Thiruvananthapuram. This capital city is definitely a must see in Kerala. It is situated on the west coast of India is known by the name of Evergreen City in India. Apart from being the education hub, Trivandrum boasts being home to many cultural events and a perfect place to trace make the rich history of the state.

Kochi-Periyar-Thekkady-Munnar-Ernakulam-Thrissur

Thekkady

It is true that Kerala is most famous for its backwaters, tea estates and seafront destinations, however, one cannot help but notice how rich this state is when it comes to culture and faith. If you are ready to explore Kerala in a different way then this particular circuit has too much to offer to you.
Beginning from Kochi, one of the major tourist attractions in Kerala, this trip will take you through the lush lands of Periyar, Thekkady and Munnar along with sacred destinations of Thrissur and that of Ernakulam. You will guaranteed enjoy the beauty of enchanting valleys, gushing streams, cascades, rolling grasslands, sprawling plantations, colonial bungalows and wildlife.

Periyar National Park

From Periyar, it is ideal to visit Thekkady, which certainly makes an important tourist destination in Kerala. It is located in the famous the Periyar National Park. The National Park is home to a large number of Indian elephants, lion-tailed Macaques, Nilgiri Langurs, Indian bison and the big Bengal Tigers that keep the place quite thrilling for the wildlife lovers. There is also Mullaperiyar Dam that is situated around the area on the Periyar River and forms an artificial lake for Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Anyone with a thing for wildlife should not miss Thekkady, as it offers some of the best wildlife holidays in India.

Munnar

Munnar is the famous hill station in Kerala that is situated at the confluence of the three rivers Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly. The beautiful hill station adds to the diversity of Kerala and of course gives tourist yet another relevant reason to plan a holiday in Kerala. Munnar is located in the Western Ghats and is famous as the major tea plantations region. One can expect tea plantations here to be in abundance along with dense forests, scenic valleys, and rich flora and fauna. Munnar is also an ideal romantic getaway in India and in case you are travelling with your spouse, it is a perfect place to stop by. And if that is not enough, the spiritual ambiance of Thrissur will clearly win your heart, whereas Ernakulam would add urban charm to this trip.

Thrissur

Also known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala, Thrissur is a perfect place for those who want to learn about the rich culture of the state. The city is the host to many cultural, spiritual and religious festival of Kerala like Thrissur Pooram, which is reckoned to be the most colourful festival in the state. Puli Kali also known as Tiger dance is one of the most popular folk art performed here during Onam festival and is worth seeing by every cultural aficionado.

Ernakulam-Thrissur-Kozhikode-Wayanad-Kannur-Kasargod

Kozhikode

Since we have already spoken about the attractions in Ernakulam and Thrissur, we will not get into the details again. Straightaway, we will discuss Kozhikode, which is also known as Calicut. It is located in the southwest coast of Kerala along the Arabian Sea and has the history of being the place where Vasco da Gama first landed in India. The city is famed for its many temples and mosques along with other attractions like Thusharagiri Falls, Kuttiyadi Dam and Sea port.

wayanad

From Kozhikode, Wayanad is a short distance away and is indeed an amazing place to visit. The place is one of the least explored areas in the state and has a major portion inhabited by tribals. It boasts of high mountains, whimsical rivers, scenic lakes and waterfall. Meenmutty Falls a three-tiered waterfall with a height of 300 metres located in Kalpetta is amongst the major attractions here.

Bekal Fort

Kannur sits north of Wayanad is one of the best places to see in Kerala. Literally meaning ‘the land of Lord Krishna’, Kannur is famous for its Theyyam art, pristine beaches as well as adventure tourism. Amongst the major attractions here is the Muzhappilangad, which is the only Drive-in Beach in India. Kannur is a paradise for beach lovers and beach holiday as it is home to some really pretty beaches like Payyamballam, Meenkunnu and Ezhara. The last destination on this beautiful sojourn would be Kasargod, which is most popular for its nearby fort called Bekal. Apart from it, there are a number of temples and historical monuments in Kasargod that are worth seeing.

You can choose one of these circuits or mix two of such to make your 10 days trip to Kerala the best vacation in India.
