Taste the Forest. Feel the Tradition

West Siang District, dominated by the vibrant Galo community, is a treasure trove of rich culinary heritage. Rooted in nature, Galo ethnic cuisine is purely organic, crafted from forest-based and locally sourced ingredients, passed down through generations.

To celebrate and promote this unique food culture, a video documentary on Galo Ethnic Cuisine has been prepared under the concept of “One District One Cuisine.” The film beautifully captures traditional cooking methods, indigenous ingredients, and the deep cultural bond between the Galo people and their natural surroundings.

This initiative aims to encourage food tourism, inviting the world to explore authentic flavors, sustainable practices, and the soul of Galo tradition through its cuisine.

This initiative goes beyond art—it’s a mission to safeguard the traditions, folklore, and history of a people whose identity is woven into the fabric of Arunachal Pradesh.

The competition, spearheaded by the West Siang district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage, welcomes a diverse range of creative expressions, from essays and paintings to comics, animations, and graphic narratives.

With themes spanning from Galo cuisine and craftsmanship to untold historical accounts and enchanting folklore, participants have the freedom to explore and illuminate the essence of their community.

“This isn’t just about storytelling or art—it’s about preserving a way of life,” said a district official. “We want people to feel connected to their roots and take pride in their heritage, ensuring these traditions don’t fade with time.”

Winning entries will be featured in the Galo Anthology, a landmark collection that will serve as both a tribute and a time capsule for future generations. To honor the most outstanding contributions, prizes and official citations will be awarded, recognizing participants as cultural custodians of their community.
