Rajasthan Tourism to lease out 35 forts to private investors to develop hotels and tourism products
Also, explore long lease/JV/ outright sale of RTDC's accommodation units

Government of Rajasthan as part of developing tourism infrastructure in the State is planning to convert old forts and palaces into heritage hotels. The government has identified about 35 such old forts to be leased out to private investors. This was informed by Sailendra Aggarwal, Secretary of Tourism, and Rajasthan while speaking at the valedictory of the FHRAI convention at Jaipur.

Besides this the government is also planning to hand over the accommodation units owned and operated by Raj Stats Tour Development Corporation to interested private entrepreneurs. Aggarwal said that the government is open to lease, joint venture or outright sale of these units. Taking the privatisation drive forward, the government is also keen to involve private sector in the upkeep and maintenance of tourism assets in the state, he said.

Elaborating the vision of the new government, Aggarwal said that, the State wants to shift its focus from monuments to activity based tourism. In this direction the State tourism will develop new circuits around handicrafts, birding, temples, etc. In order to attract tourists even during summers, Aggarwal said that monuments will be lit up and opened for tourists in the evenings as well.
