British Columbia’s provincial nomination program (BC PNP) issued its last invitation to apply for the current International Graduate Stream today (November 26, 2024). However, it announced that three new streams will soon be available for international students to apply for Canadian permanent residence (PR).

Generally, this depends on the location of your employer and the type of PR program. Also, the work experience must be skilled.

📌Living outside Canada & Employer-based inside Canada:
Yes. Remote work experience counts as foreign work experience. A work permit is not required.

📌Living inside Canada & Employer based outside Canada:
Yes. Remote work experience count as foreign work experience. A work permit is not required.

📌Living inside Canada & Employer based in Canada (same location):
Yes. Remote work experience are generally exceptable for Federal Express Entry programs and could count as Canadian work experience. A work permit is often required.

📌Living inside Canada & Employer based in another Canadian province:
Maybe. When it comes to other programs such as provincial nomination, some requires that you are in the same physical location as your Canadian employer for such work experience to count. Also, that you have a valid status such as a work permit or study permit.

◾️What is Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)?

GIC is an acceptable source of proof of funds mainly used to show your living expenses as an international student when applying for Canadian study permit.

◾️3 benefits of using Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC);

1. Secured investment of your living expenses money in a relatively stable currency (Canadian dollars).

2. More trustworthy and easily verifiable by the Canadian embassy.

3. Demonstrates stronger motivation for studies in Canada since funds are deposited in a Canadian bank.

◾️Other acceptable sources of proof of funds for Canadian study permit application;

✅ Your bank account statement from your home country or that of your sponsor.

✅ Canadian bank account in your name or sponsor’s name.

✅ Student Loan Letter from a recognized financial institution.

✅ Bank draft that can be converted to

Canadian dollars.

✅ Proof of paid tuition fees, accommodation and travel flight tickets.

1. Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document: When your permanent residence (PR) application is approved while you are outside Canada, you will receive a document called a COPR. You must present your COPR when you arrive in Canada for the first time. The COPR is not a travel document but could be used as a means of identification (ID) and is usually valid for one year. If your COPR expires before you arrive in Canada, you will have to reapply for your PR.

2. Permanent Residence Visa: If you need a visa to travel to Canada, you will get a single entry PR visa counterfoil stamped in your passport. This visa allows you to enter Canada usually only once for your initial arrival process. It is a travel document that is usually valid for one year.

3. Permanent Residence Card: You can only get your PR card after you arrive in Canada and apply for it. It can only be sent to an address in Canada. The PR card is a travel document that is usually valid for 5 years and could be used as a means of ID. You can use it to reenter Canada multiple times as a PR.
