January 1923 at Dadh, Kangra Himachal Pradesh India. He came from a well-known military family, his father, Major General Amar Nath Sharma, was also a military officer.

On 22 October 1947, Pakistan launched the tribal invasion of Jammu & Kashmir. The intention was to grab the Kashmir valley by force. As the State became a part of the Union on October 26th, her protection became the responsibility of India. To save the State from a tribal invasion, which was approaching the valley at a very fast pace, India dispatched troops to Srinagar.

The D Company of 4 Kumaon, led by Major Somnath Sharma, was airlifted to Srinagar on October 31st. When his company was asked to move to Srinagar, Major Sharma's arm was in plaster. He had suffered a fracture on the hockey ground and was advised rest till the plaster was removed. But he insisted on being with his company at this crucial hour and was allowed to go.

He and his men were surrounded by the enemy from three sides and his company sustained heavy casualties because they were outnumbered by the enemy. He realized that if he and his men left that post then it would be easy for the enemy to capture Srinagar airport and Srinagar city.

He then told his boys to fight till last the blood was spilt. They were outnumbered seven to one by the enemy, but he and his company were not ready to surrender and he kept on urging his men to fight bravely. Major Sharma soon realized that heavy casualties affected firing power.

So although his right hand was in plaster, he took upon himself the task of filling the magazines and issuing them to men and he himself took charge of the light machine guns.

While he was busy fighting the enemy, a mortar shell exploded on the ammunition near him and killed him, his last voice message to brigade HQ was, “the enemies were just 50 yards from us and that we are heavily outnumbered and we shall not withdraw an inch but we will fight to our last man and last round”. His answer is now part of the Army lore.

In the battle, Major Sharma, one JCO and 20 other ranks were killed. But their sacrifices did not go in vain. He and his men stemmed the tide of the enemy advance on Srinagar and the airfield for very crucial six hours, thus buying time to get the reinforcements.

He has set an example of courage and qualities in the Indian Army. Major General Amarnath Sharma received India's first and highest war-time gallantry medal, Param Vir Chakra, on behalf of his brave son.

5000 समर्थको के साथ
अनशन पर बैठे तो सारे

चालीसा गाने लगे ????
इस के पीछे क्या कारण है

Stylish man at his wrk...
Surat-based textile businessmen bid a whopping Rs 1.21 crore in an auction today for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial pinstripe monogrammed bandhgala suit that he wore during US President Barack Obama’s visit to India last month.
Up for auction were also two T-shirts of Narendra Modi including one gifted to him by Cricket Australia during his visit to Australia in November. The T-shirts were among 237 clothes and textiles items put for auction.
In all, 455 items that Narendra Modi had received as gifts during his nearly nine-month long tenure have been put for auction to generate funds for the Prime Minister’s ambitious ‘Clean Ganga Mission’.
Photographs of the suit on a closer inspection showed that the stripes were actually tiny letters spelling out his name in full– Narendra Damodardas Modi.
Rajesh Juneja gave a written bid offering Rs.1.21 crore for Narendra Modi’s navy blue suit which was the star attraction at the three-day auction which opened today. Some reports said the suit had cost nearly Rs 10 lakh.
Juneja, who emerged as the highest bidder for the suit on day one, said, “I like Narendra Modi’s hardwork, confidence and that is why he is my role model. I want to keep the suit as a souvenir. If the bid goes up a little further, I will match it. But if it goes up steeply, then I will think about proceeding further”.

फ्रेंच अखबार Le Monde को फ्रांस सरकार से सूची मिली। ये खुफिया सूत्रों से सूची वहां तक पहुंची। एचएफबीसी बैंक के एक लाख से ज्यादा खातादारों की सूची मिली। Le Monde ने 45 देशों के पत्रकारों की सहायता से इस सूची की जांच को आगे बढ़ाया।

इंडियन एक्सप्रेस ने दावा किया है कि इस सूची में 1195 भारतीयों के नाम है जिनके खातों में 25 हजार 400 करोड़ रुपए जमा हैं। इंडियन एक्सप्रेस द्वारा प्रकाशित किए गए नामों में वे 628 नाम भी हैं जिन्हें सरकार पहले ही उजागर कर चुकी है।

India's senior-most pacer Ishant Sharma was on Saturday ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup owing to a knee injury after he was the only one among the four injured cricketers who failed in the fitness test.

The injured quartet of Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja went through rigourous fitness drills and the lanky pacer, who last played during the Boxing Day Test match in Sydney, was clearly not in best physical condition.

"It's confirmed that Ishant has been ruled out and will not recover in time to play the World Cup. As per regulations, we had Mohit Sharma as stand-by and he will be inducted into the World Cup squad. Ishant is likely to return home," a top BCCI source told PTI on Saturday.

"Rohit Sharma (hamstring), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (ankle) and Ravindra Jadeja (shoulder) have passed the fitness test. However to confirm their match fitness, the trio will need to go through the grind during the warm-up games against Australia and Afghanistan.

"The team management will need to check as to how Jadeja shapes up while throwing from the deep. That they (Rohit and Bhuvneshwar) have reported fit is the reason that they were presented for the Open Media Session," the source added.

The BCCI has not yet issued any official statement on Ishant's withdrawal from the team and his replacement yet.

Recently, after a four-week lay-off, the 26-year-old Ishant was picked to check his fitness during one of the tri-nation series match against Australia on January 26 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). However, the match was abandoned after 16 overs and Ishant didn't get a chance to bowl.

But according to team insiders, in the very next match against England at Perth on January 30, he again reported unfit which raised a lot of eye brows as India neither played nor had any practice session in the interim.
