Hi Hosts,
🚨*Alert*
Just sharing an alert that might help someone avoid a scam.
You may receive a call from +91 79-47066675. The caller speaks in a foreign accent and reaches out claiming to enquire about accommodation. It appears they are pulling host numbers directly from Google Business listings and specifically targeting people who run homestays or rentals.
The conversation starts like a normal enquiry, but it goes on for quite a while. During the call something felt unusual to me. I could hear what sounded like typing in the background and there were long pauses, almost like the person was following a script. It created that strange feeling where the conversation doesn’t quite add up.
I shared basic information about the property and then asked the caller to simply send a message so we could continue the conversation there. No message ever came.
When I tried calling the same number back, it showed “number does not exist.”
Interestingly, the person called again later, and this time the tone was noticeably different.
My guess is that these calls are designed to keep hosts on the line long enough to attempt some form of financial or OTP-based scam. Since my conversation was short and I didn’t share any sensitive details, nothing happened on my end.
Just a heads-up to everyone in the host community. If you receive calls like this, stay cautious, avoid sharing personal or payment details, and ask them to continue the conversation via message or email first.
Scammers are clearly targeting hosts now, so it’s good for all of us to stay alert and warn each other.
