The Shyok Tunnel is 920 metres long and has been built on a very important strategic road in Ladakh. Yesterday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Shyok Tunnel.
The Shyok–DBO Road, running close to the Galwan Valley and connecting to Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO), is one of India’s most critical strategic lifelines in eastern Ladakh. Built along extremely challenging terrain at high altitude, this road provides the Indian Army with a direct, all-weather supply link from Darbuk to the DBO airstrip, which lies near the Line of Actual Control. Its importance lies in drastically reducing travel time for troops, equipment, and logistics to the northernmost military posts. In a region where mobility can decide response capability, the Shyok–DBO Road strengthens India’s operational readiness, ensures faster deployment during emergencies, and enhances surveillance and support across the sensitive Galwan–Depsang sector. It stands as a vital component of India’s border infrastructure and overall strategic posture in Ladakh.
