"Sharmili" - The late old queen from Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve.

This was my debut trip to this beautiful forest. We started off with the Bijrani zone and were greeted this famous old queen fondly called as "Sharmili". She had already her canines and shortly after this sighting a few later she was confirmed to have ascended. She was also my very first tiger in the reserve and that too on these beautiful white rocked river bed.

A Serpent Eagle with its potent meal from Kabini

Being in the wild for quite some time, coming across a serpent eagle is nothing to stop for, but then when said eagle flies down closer to you to the ground, STOP! In this case its venomous meal gave for some really nice frames and moments that one rarely witnesses live.

The beautiful lady of the lake at the time (Arrowhead) from Ranthambore Tiger Reserve.

I was leading a full day safari tour at Ranthambore as we scoured the beautiful hill and rocky terrain of the tiger centric Ranthambore forest. Getting the usual sighting of tigers sitting in the water or crossing the road or even walking like this beauty but this was a special moment. Let me elaborate, as soon as the morning normal safari vehicles left the reserve, we kept exploring the terrain with our full day permits. We started to head towards the gate of Zone 3 to freshen up a bit, but this big cat had a different idea. As we almost approached the gate (few meters), She emerged from the forest and started to walk on the safari track as we kept reversing. We were the only ones there and spent the entire afternoon till the evening safari vehicle came in. She walked, marked her territory, stalked and also charged and took down a little deer fawn on the banks of the famous fort's lake.

A time well spent in the Mara with the then Topi pride helmed by the two Kings ( Late. Lipstick & Late. Blackie). These two little one were the future of the pride along side another of their sibling that was killed by a small herd of buffalo right in front of our eye a day before. These two unfortunately did not survive either as one of them was later on killed by a masai spear a few days after this photo was taken. Part and parcel of the African wild, which has been this way for centuries 😢

A young tigress from Tadoba. (Subadult of Choti Tara)

We had started our safari from Moharli and headed towards Choti Tara's territory. Hardly 10 mins into the safari the queen herself (Choti Tara) was walking towards us. She kept walking ahead of us as we kept reversing for over 20 mins before we let he go on her way. The excitement of seeing a tiger on our very first safari was at it peak when a few meters from where we left her, her subadult daughter emerged from the forest and gave us some quality time on the safari track as she sat on the safari track and kept grooming herself before she went into the forest and we let her be. Cats have some amazing flexibility, imagine a normal human being capability of such dexterity 😱

A gorgeous tigress from Kabini

This beautiful tigress is fondly known as the backwater tigress as she looks as well as walks the same path as her late father the mighty backwater male. We had started making our way out after the evening safari and though to check a waterhole near the entrance of this route. We reached the spot to see this beauty walking into the forest. A few of the vehicles reversed back and decided to wait out the reminder time for a chance to get her again as she is known to venture the same path as her father and sure enough after 5 min she emerges giving her fans a wonderful lowlight catwalk.

Young tusker being disciplined by the matriarch at Bijrani zone from Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve

While on safari at Jim Corbett’s Bijrani zone we encountered a herd of elephants in front of us on the hilly tracks. We kept a distance and kept following them over the span of an hour. At one juncture this young tusker kept misbehaving with the herd and the Matriarch charged at him, disciplining him. It did take us by surprise as we had just come out of the corner to witness the same.

Maya the tigress smelling a Ghost tree at Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

This beautiful tigress is fondly called “Maya” and is one of the most photographed and boldest tigers of the reserve. We were waiting at this junction as we had got word of a tiger sighting in the vicinity as there was a kill and after waiting for about an hour or so, she emerged with her belly full crossing the track ahead, she walked to this ghost tree and scent marked it before heading back into the forest.

The elusive Black Panther from Kabini taken way back in 2017!

This was my very first time photographing this elusive "Black Panther" from Kabini. A last minute extension of our plans to stay back for one night more turned out to be the best decision my Dad and I made as we were gifted with this wonderful sighting of the majestic and elusive Black cat. This photo was taken on a very misty morning at about 6:50am which made focusing this cat a challenge due to its all black coat.
