As they are vulnerable to stronger predators like lion and hyenas they eat majority of the kill as quickly as possible.

ADAPTATION OF PELICANS ...........................
Spot Billed Pelicans in Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary, SCOOP water to hunt their prey. Scooping behaviour is a perfect example of pelicans' specialised hunting technique, adapted to their aquatic habitats.
SHALLOW WATER: Ranganthittu has shallow water with abundance of fish. Scooping strategy water is a highly efficient way for pelicans to catch fish.and can capture multiple fish in a single scoop, maximizing their food intake.

GULAR SAC: Pelicans have evolved specialized beaks with a large pouch at the bottom called Gular Sac. The act of scooping can create a disturbance in the water that causes fish to jump or become disoriented. This makes it easier for the pelicans to catch their prey.
For photographers this behaviour is an exciting opportunity for dynamic wildlife photography.
The soft golden hues of morning or evening light and the use of natural contrast of the backdrop can create visually striking images. (The serene blue water and sky, along with the white plumage of the pelicans, provide a natural contrast)
