The Residency complex in is a grim reminder of the events that unfolded in 1857 during the Indian mutiny.
A guided walk is essential to understand the history of the place and walk through the times of siege and rebellion. Spread over 33 acres the ruins are surrounded by garden and trees making it a pleasurable walk on a cold winter morning. Do not miss this when in Lucknow and definitely engage a good guide who will encapsulate the events and point out the important buildings in the complex.

Hits and misses of 2025
We had an interesting year discovering new places and new hiking trails..Lots of group trips..one that didn’t go quite as planned..nonetheless great bunch of sporty people who took it all in their stride. Listed below in the order of appearance
1. Gorgeous homestay in Dehradhun
2. Village walks and Boutique property stays in Uttarakhand 3 .Georgia- Skiing holiday at Gadauri (we believe the group had a ball)
4. Tehri lake is the preferred new destination in the hills of North India. 5. Our secret destination in Tamil Nadu was something to fall in love with and we are returning there for sure in 2026. 6. Misty blue hills of Tamil Nadu..and no it’s not Ooty. 7. Ladakh’s Sham valley trek was as culturally immersive as planned and the format of hiking and staying at homestays appealed to most. Though July shall be avoided 😅😓.
8. Snow leopard country was explored to the hilt..definitely will be back in the right season. 9. Arunachal’s Anini is almost home now😍. 8.The Dree valley trek though not for faint hearted!
9. On the other hand Rafting in the waters of Dree is a winner.
10.Arunachal’s western side is still raw and beautiful..we shall be exploring this year
11. Kolkota’s Durga Puja was as stunning as ever and the guests couldn’t stop gushing about the homestays we chose for them.
12. Japan was a revelation! A recee that will lead to some fabulous itineraries ( still at the drawing table)
13. Beauty in going offbeat- Japan 14. Kolkata and Sundarbans in Dec.. things didn’t quite go as planned with the national park closing on our trip dates..but the sporty ladies didn’t let it dampen their spirits. 15. Rajbari was hopefully a soothing balm on a trip that went a bit off course.

Welcome to Shekhawati & Bikaner—a side of Rajasthan that feels like a time capsule. Over 6 days, we explore yhe "Secrets of North Rajasthan," and it is nothing short of a movie set. 🎥

We start jn Mandawa, often called the "Open Art Gallery". Back in the 18th century, this was a key stop for wealthy merchants on the Silk Route. Instead of just building homes, they created massive Havelis with walls that "narrate tales of a bygone era" through intricate frescoes.

Then, we move to the majestic city of Bikaner. A place unlike any other with Rajasthani forts that sit on hilltops, we explored the Junagarh Fort, a formidable structure built right on the plains by Rao Bika.

But the most mind-blowing part? The Karni Mata Temple. It’s known globally as the "Temple of Rats." Thousands of mice, known as kaba, scurry around here. They are considered holy and treated with the utmost care by devotees. It is a surreal experience you have to see to believe!

We end the trip with a sunset boat ride at Gajner Palace, a jewel of the Thar Desert built by Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh.

Here is the route we take:
📍 Day 1-2: Jaipur to Mandawa (Haveli hopping & Local Markets)
📍 Day 3: Drive to Bikaner & Junagarh Fort
📍 Day 4: Karni Mata Temple & Gajner Palace
📍 Day 5-6: Back to Jaipur for Hawa Mahal views

📌 Save this reel for your next trip to Rajasthan!
