The Transfiguration

Raphael recreated the miracle of Transfiguration with this painting. Unfortunately he lost his life before the completion of the painting. Hence, his student Giulio Romano had to finish it off for him. That’s why one can note that there is a visible between the top and bottom half of the painting. The upper half depicts Christ while the lower portion features a child getting healed with the appearance of Christ. Apart from painters the painting also depicts two distinctive styles of painting- Mannerism and Baroque..It is thoroughly fascinating to study two diverse styles in one frame. The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne

This painting is an oil one done on wood, and it is hung in Paris’s Musee Du Louvre. Leornado had explored this theme, long before he actually came around successfully completing the painting. It opens up to a still of Virgin Mary, St Anne and Infant Jesus all seated in a pyramid shape. It’s interesting to observe the manner in which the pointed cliffs in the background are in a way photocopied on Anne’s veil.

Also the sizing of Mary and Saint Anne is not clearly distinguished, but the painting emotes the mother daughter relationship between the two. It’s fascinating to feel so deeply the overwhelming emotions of the subject in the painting. It almost feels life-like. Wouldn’t you want to create such creations? School of Athens

Raphael began his journey to the artistic realms from a young age, owing to the fact that his father was a painter. After training under Perugino, he mastered ‘Perugino’s’ technique. After which he moved to Florence and absorbed from his contemporaries while staying true to his own style. In his artisanal legacy Raphael left behind the hallmark of Italian Renaissance with-The School of Athens.

Apart from being a masterpiece, the School of Athens symbolizes a high degree of intellectuality. Staging Plato and Aristotle who come from different philosophies the painting also features Socrates. From the mathematical sphere one can spot Ptolemy, Euclid, and Pythagoras. But what cannot go by unmissed is the thinking figure of Heraclitus, a self-taught philosopher. The painting schools thoughts, ideologies, and antiquities that are true to the Renaissance Era. The painting is noteworthy for several aspects, its varied color palette, its usage of light, and flawless brush strokes.

It’s inspiring to see the manner in which an entire Era is depicted in a painting. Come and get inspired with the experiences in ‘Made in Italy.’

The Annunciation

Leonardo Da Vinci’s Annunciation is the result of a collaborative effort with Andrea Del Verricho. In adherence to a centuries old model, the painting in its initial form opens up to an angel on the left and a Virgin on the right set against an architectural landscape. To this initial version Leornado added heavy brush strokes of lead based paint. As a parting note, he asked Leornado to finish it off with some light brush strokes. The painting is a testimony to his descriptive style of drawing and painting. It further underwent a series of changes which did nothing to dim Leornado Da Vinci’s artistic contributions to it.

The Renaissance Era had an altogether different league of geniuses, and of the most celebrated artists of that age was Leonardo Da Vinci. His artistic sensibilities were guided by his manner of perceiving a phenomenon, and this came to be called ‘Sapre vedere’ (knowing how to see). And this invaluable knowledge led him to create a masterpiece, ‘The Last Supper.’

Affixed in the Santa Maria Delle Grazie in Milan the painting is profound and there’s more to it than meets the eye. It reels out a scene from Holy Thursday wherein Jesus is sharing his last meal with his 12 Apostles. It’s fascinating to witness the interplay between color and light that’s depicted in the painting. But it's saddening that the original version of the fresco is fading due to the poor quality material that was used. It’s a miracle that the painting has stood the test of time. The painting’s stark simplicity inspired the logos and motifs of the brand, Off White. Capture the essence of its beauty while you still can and recreate its magic with your own creativity. Botticelli’s last painting, the Calumny of Apelles is the tiniest and least recognized of his work but nevertheless it is a beauty to be admired. The narrative is woven around an ancient Greek painter Apelles who lost his painting. It was inspired by a description from Lucian’s Dialogues. This wasn’t the first time that an artist has chosen this theme. It features Apelles being dragged to the king for a fraud he had been accused of committing. While on the left side, is a disrobed young woman who is looking to the heavens making a plea for justice.

But the painting in question is distinctive, for more reasons than one. Its careful detailing and precision cannot be appreciated enough. Perhaps this could spark creativity in you. Detailing down to the tee and intricacy stands out in this painting of Sandro Botticelli. Affixed in Italy's Uffizi gallery this painting is admirable- worthy for its elaborateness. Gazing at it is sure to remind one of a Spring Day. Featuring Venus and Cupid on one side, there is a depiction of Chloris who gets transformed into Flora on being seduced by Zephyr on the other side. All this floral love is brought to life in Valentino's catwalk the previous year.
