To celebrate the International Archives Week, we have a series of public engagements - workshops, walkthroughs, film screenings and a talk - to stimulate interest in archives, how they work, and why they matter. In the last 30 years, we have implemented and supported 950+ projects, which are now housed at the IFA Archive in the form of books, films, games, websites, and much more. Through the week, our programmes highlight projects engaging with community histories, justice and memory. Drop by and take a look at our work as we mark 30 years of Grant and project implementation.

We look forward to hosting you!

Join us to know about a group of artists that came together to ignite an independent comics movement in Assam!

Biswajit and Sarang will talk about their artistic collaboration in creating anthologies of one-page graphic stories about Assam. The comics in the six anthologies were created by young Assamese artists covering a wide range of themes: local food and kitchen stories, the identity crisis faced by city-dwelling artists, laments over tree cuttings, mini horror stories, anthropomorphic animal imaginations, and endearing stories about eating fish at home.

They will be in conversation with Programme Officer, IFA, unpacking their motivations, artistic processes and the value of collaborative processes in arts and art-making.

From the IFA Archive | Bhagath Singh A — Arts Research: 2017–2018

Bhagath Singh A, a research scholar in anthropology, studied the evolution and development of Gaana music culture in Chennai. Through fieldwork across neighbourhoods in North Chennai, he documented Gaana songs in their performance contexts and interviewed practitioners to understand their lives, spaces and practices. His research examined the history, content and socio-political dimensions of Gaana, highlighting its role as a powerful expression of marginalised urban communities. The project resulted in a series of essays in Tamil, along with video and photographic documentation.

This project was supported by Titan Company Limited.

This and more such projects are available at our in-house Archive (open to visitors!) in Bangalore or online at www.theifaarchive.org

The IFA Archive is built with support from SP Lohia Foundation

📖 Staying Connected | Thirty Years of IFA

Our 30th newsletter is out! It tells you about the projects we have implemented, the festival we hosted in Namma Bengaluru, reports from a conference and an impact study, and how you can support IFA in our endeavours. This year is also a special one: we mark 30 years of making grants and projects. Three decades of being witness to projects that traverse boundaries of knowledge and knowledge making, and most importantly, question existing frameworks of the arts and culture landscape.
