STRIPE NECKED MONGOOSE
--------------------------------------------
There are 6 species of mongoose found in India and the Stripe Necked Mongoose is the most common in our Indian forest. While my recent visit to the forest I could spot plenty of them scratching the forest floor for grubs. Monsoon being the season of plenty they looked very well fed. While photographing common species like mongoose give then ample space, in this case I switched off my Jeep and let the guy be on its own. He was completely as ease in the middle of the track digging grubs/insects and in between checking on me :)

SLOTH BEAR
------------------
If you should be careful of one animal in our Indian Jungles that is the Sloth Bear. Sloth Bears are extremely aggressive and unpredictable animals mainly due to their poor sense of sight & hearing which is compensated by their acute sense of smell. A Sloth Bear has a distinct whitish "V" like marking on its chest & hairless feet sole which provide better grip while climbing trees. This is a distinct character of tree climbing Bears like the Himalayan Black Bears & Sloth Bears. Noisy feeders they are Sloth Bears mainly lives on fruits, roots, carrions and insects primarily Termites. Their curved ivory white claws help them to excavate termite mounds and climb trees in search of fruits and honey. By protruding their lips they suck the termites out their mound. Sloth Bears do not hibernate. They mate during summer and give birth during winter months between January to February. Cubs when old enough to climb & grip are carried by their mother on back which we call "Piggy Backing" Sloth Bear mother are fiercely protective about their cubs and can attack without provocation.
