The Sharavathi Bridge, India's second-longest cable-stayed bridge, was inaugurated in Shivamogga, Karnataka, by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on July 14, 2025. This 2.44 km long and 16-meter wide bridge connects remote villages separated by the Sharavathi reservoir, reducing travel time and distance between Udupi and Sagar. The bridge was constructed at a cost of ₹472 crore and features advanced extradosed cable-stayed and balanced cantilever technology.
*Key Features:*
- *Length:* 2.44 km
- *Width:* 16 meters
- *Cable-supported span:* 740 meters
- *Pylons:* 17, ranging from 30 to 55 meters in height
- *Box Girders:* 604

The bridge improves connectivity between the Malnad and coastal regions, facilitating easier access to important pilgrimage centers like the Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple and Kollur Mookambika Temple. It also restores a critical link disrupted since the construction of the Linganamakki Dam in the 1970s. The project is expected to stimulate regional economic activity, improve mobility, and benefit local communities.¹ ²
