What a wonderful morning spent amidst the lush greenery of Lalbagh Botanical Garden, where little hands, energetic legs, and curious minds explored, discovered, created, and connected with nature at every turn.

Our celebration was packed with meaningful experiences designed to inspire observation, curiosity, and wonder. We began by building vital ecological connections through our Web of Life game, helping children understand how every living thing is linked to another. Biodiversity flash cards introduced some of the fascinating animals commonly found in our parks and green spaces, while our Create Your Own Tree activity encouraged creativity using natural treasures collected along the way.

Our journey concluded at the magnificent Peninsular Gneiss, a geological wonder nearly 3 billion years old, and beside Kempegowda Tower, one of the historic towers that once marked the boundaries of Bangalore.

Standing atop ancient rock, overlooking one of the city’s most beloved green spaces, it was hard not to wonder—if Kempegowda could see South Bengaluru today, would he have imagined generations of children gathering here to discover millipedes, smell petrichor, learn about bats and pollination, and form lifelong connections with the natural world? 😉

Because the best celebrations aren’t found in party halls—they’re found beneath towering trees, after gentle rains, among birdsong, laughter, muddy shoes, and the endless wonder of nature. 🌳✨💚

Thank you parents for choosing to celebrate your little ones big day with us

Every child deserves a little more time outside. 🌿🌧️🦋

🌿 Bangalore’s Wild Summer — Tiny Lives, Big Stories

From dusty trails to shaded canopies, Bengaluru’s summer-to-pre-monsoon season is one of the best times to slow down and notice the incredible biodiversity thriving quietly around us.

Every nature walk becomes a reminder that wilderness isn’t far away — it exists in our parks, farms, lakesides and scrub forests if we simply pause and observe. 🌾✨

🐛 Millipede
Nature’s recycler. These gentle detritivores break down dead leaves and organic matter, enriching the soil and helping forests breathe beneath our feet. Their appearance increases with rising humidity before the monsoons.

🦜 Rose-ringed Parakeet
One of Bengaluru’s most charismatic urban birds. Seed dispersers, noisy flock flyers and important contributors to urban ecology, they thrive in old tree-lined neighbourhoods and lake ecosystems.

🐸 Asian Toad
Masters of camouflage and indicators of ecosystem health. Their calls begin increasing as moisture builds before the rains — a beautiful sign that the monsoon cycle is approaching.

🦋 Grass Yellow Butterfly
Among the most common yet magical summer butterflies. These pollinators are often seen fluttering through open grasslands and gardens after brief summer showers.

🪶 Black Kite
A skilled urban raptor soaring above Bengaluru skies. Kites help maintain ecological balance by scavenging carrion and controlling waste in city ecosystems.

🐦 Red-whiskered Bulbul
Curious, vocal and energetic — bulbuls play an important role in seed dispersal and pollination while adding constant music to our mornings.

🌦️ Summer transitioning into pre-monsoon is one of the richest seasons for outdoor exploration in Bengaluru — flowering trees, insect activity, bird movement, amphibian calls and dramatic skies all come alive together.

Nature walks are not just about spotting wildlife; they are about reconnecting with the rhythms of the land we live in. 🌱

Step into the timeless green heart of Bengaluru with us at Lalbagh Botanical Garden 🌿

Every walk through Lal Bagh feels like travelling through nature, history and heritage all at once. Spread across 240 acres, this iconic botanical garden is home to some of Bengaluru’s oldest and most magnificent trees — towering Rain Trees, Silk Cotton, Mango, Araucaria, ancient Ficus species and thousands of rare plants that make this space one of India’s richest urban green landscapes.

From a geological rock formation older than life itself, to the historic fort walls of Kempe Gowda I, Lal Bagh holds the story of how Bengaluru evolved through centuries. The garden has nurtured and preserved rare plant species since the late 1700s, with many of its heritage trees planted between the 1800s and early 1900s.

Walk past the iconic Glass House, the floral clock, hidden heritage corners, old zoo remnants, tree fossils and the breathtaking 250-year-old Silk Cotton tree that continues to leave visitors speechless.

More than a botanical garden, Lal Bagh is a living museum of ecology, geology and history — a space that invites you to slow down, observe and reconnect with the natural world.

Join us for a deeply immersive heritage and nature walk through one of Bengaluru’s most loved green spaces 🌱

Showcasing some of the most essential pollinators around us—right here in Namma Ooru, Bangalore! 🌿

White-cheeked Barbet
With its beautiful “gutroo gutroo” calls, this leaf-green bird blends perfectly into the canopy. Its vocal activity increases just before the rains, creating a symphony when you’re outdoors—nature’s own monsoon prelude.

Asian Weaver Ant
Fiery, fierce, and incredibly protective, these ants guard fruit trees like mango, lime, and ficus. Not to be trifled with—their bite is enough to send you retreating! Their delicate, whitish foam-like nests are masterfully woven and remarkably weatherproof.

Fruit-eating Bats (Flying Foxes)
Often misunderstood, these bats play a critical ecological role as night-time pollinators and seed dispersers. Their droppings, known as guano, are rich in nitrogen and enrich the soil. Look up after 6:30 pm—their silhouettes glide across the sky, with wingspans reaching up to 3–4 feet.

Three-striped Palm Squirrel
Playful and curious, these small mammals belong to the rodent family. Surprisingly bold, they’ve been seen taking on much larger birds like crows! Their high-pitched squeaks are often mistaken for bird calls. Their numbers rise in summer when food is abundant.

Crab Spider
Masters of camouflage, these spiders often sit quietly on flowers or beneath leaves, waiting for unsuspecting prey. Instead of large webs, they rely on stealth—though fine silk threads may become visible, especially after rains.

Honeybee
The true champions of pollination. Over 90% of flowering plants depend on pollinators like bees. From producing honey and pollen to building perfect hexagonal hives and communicating through dance, honeybees are nothing short of extraordinary—disciplined, intelligent, and essential to life as we know it.

We finally stood beneath one of the world’s most extraordinary living beings — the sacred Ficus religiosa in Colombo — and it truly lives up to every word ever written about it.

Often referred to as the Sri Maha Bodhi, this is believed to be the oldest historically documented tree in the world, lovingly protected and continuously tended for over 2,000 years. What makes it even more incredible? It isn’t just ancient — it is a living lineage. This tree is said to have been grown from a cutting of the very Bodhi tree under which Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment in Bodh Gaya.

Standing before it, you don’t just see a tree — you feel time. Its expansive canopy, heart-shaped leaves trembling in the breeze, and deeply rooted presence hold centuries of devotion, resilience, and quiet witnessing.

🌿 Did you know?
The Sacred Fig is ecologically powerful too — supporting birds, bats, insects, and microhabitats, while its figs are a critical food source in urban ecosystems. It is often called a “keystone species” for the life it sustains.

There’s something humbling about being in the presence of a being that has outlived empires, stories, and generations — and continues to grow.

🎥 In our video:
• A glimpse of us sharing this moment
• The tree in all its quiet grandeur
• The statue of Buddha standing under
• New leaves on the tree making this species almost immortal
• And a closer look at its incredible form

Some trees don’t just grow — they hold the world together. 🌳✨

❤️🌺

There’s a certain magic in the city right now — the streets are ablaze with the fiery, cascading blooms of the Gulmohar. Bold, dramatic, and impossible to ignore, this once-a-year spectacle is nature at its most theatrical — a true midsummer celebration.

Native to Madagascar and brought into Bengaluru during the colonial era, the Gulmohar has made itself completely at home. Its wide, umbrella-like canopy, smooth pale bark, and striking, fern-like leaves give it a soft, airy elegance — but when the leaves fall, the real show begins. Clusters of blazing reds and burnt oranges take over, with a single petal often streaked in yellow — like a flame flickering in motion.

Beyond its beauty, the Gulmohar is a thriving hub of urban biodiversity. Its nectar-rich flowers attract sunbirds, mynas, barbets, squirrels, and even monkeys — turning every tree into a lively, chirping ecosystem. These seasonal blooms offer an important food source during the hotter months when resources can be scarce.

And there’s nostalgia too — those long, woody seed pods that dry and rattle in the wind, once our childhood instruments 🎶. The curved sepals? Nature’s own playful “nail art,” worn proudly by little hands.

Despite its delicate appearance, the Gulmohar is remarkably resilient. Fast-growing, adaptable, and widely planted along avenues, it brings both shade and seasonal drama to our urban landscape. Its shallow, spreading roots and broad canopy make it ideal for lining city roads — gifting us pockets of cool, dappled relief through summer.

A fleeting but unforgettable spectacle, the Gulmohar doesn’t just bloom — it announces the peak of summer with unapologetic brilliance.

Pause, look up, and take it in. 🌿🔥 Our May Flower is on fire right now everywhere in Bangalore

🌼 The Vishu Tree in Full Glory 🌼

Right now, the radiant gold of the Cassia fistula is lighting up our landscapes — a true celebration of summer!

Also known as the Golden Shower Tree or Amaltas, this beauty isn’t just a visual delight — it’s deeply woven into culture, ecology, and tradition.

✨ Why it matters
In Vishu, these golden blooms are considered sacred and symbolic of prosperity, hope, and new beginnings. They’re an essential part of the Vishu Kani — the first sight of abundance for the year ahead.

🌿 Ecology at work
These cascading flowers aren’t just pretty — they’re pollinator magnets! Bees, butterflies, and birds thrive on their nectar, making the tree a vital summer food source when few others bloom. It’s nature’s way of sustaining life through the harsh heat.

💛 Did you know?
The Golden Shower Tree times its flowering with peak summer — often when it has shed most of its leaves — making the yellow blooms even more striking and visible to pollinators from afar.

🌱 Medicinal whispers from the past
In traditional Ayurveda, different parts of the tree are used for their healing properties — especially the pulp of its pods, known for gentle detox and digestive support.

🌏 A living heritage
Native to the Indian subcontinent, this tree is more than ornamental — it’s a seasonal storyteller, marking cycles of heat, renewal, and cultural celebration.

🌼 Next time you walk past a shower of gold, pause — you’re witnessing ecology, culture, and time all in bloom.
