Four minor children allegedly found selling “magic books” on the streets of Belagavi were rescued during a joint child labour prevention operation.

The operation was carried out after social workers received information about children being involved in street sales. Social Worker Rescue Team members Avadhut Tudavekar, Padmaprasad Hooli, Shashikant Ambewadkar, Vicky Mehata, Michael Pinto and Matin Makandar immediately reached the spot.

The rescue was conducted jointly by the Social Workers Rescue Team, Belagavi City Police, the Women and Child Welfare Department and the Akka Pade (Sisters Force).

Officials reportedly found five adult women accompanied by four minor children who were allegedly being made to sell “magic books” on the streets. The children were rescued and the authorities initiated the required procedures to protect their welfare and ensure they return to education.

Social workers and officials stressed that children should be in school and not involved in labour or street selling. The rescued minors will be provided necessary support and rehabilitation as per the procedure.

The swift joint action has been appreciated by citizens and local groups, who said protecting children from exploitation is a shared responsibility.
