Bring your own binoculars, camera, or phone (if available).
Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
Maintain silence to avoid disturbing the birds.

Stay on designated paths and trails.
Turn off or silence mobile phones to prevent noise disturbances.
Do not play bird calls or sounds to attract birds, as it can disrupt their natural behavior.

BLUE BEARDED 𝘽𝙀𝙀 𝙀𝘼𝙏𝙀𝙍

𝙍𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖 -𝘼 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙮
I spotted and photographed the 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲-𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗲-𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿
(Nyctyornis athertoni) in 𝘽𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙖𝙡, 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖
— a truly 𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣
! Known to favor forested hills of the Eastern Ghats and Northeast, this vibrant bird is hardly ever seen in Central India, making this encounter even more special.
One frame captures it perched gracefully, flaunting its dazzling green-blue plumage and iconic “beard.” The other — sheer magic — shows it bursting out of water, droplets glistening mid-air. I couldn't have asked for a better lifer!
This surprise sighting is not just a tick on the list, but a 𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙖 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 that I’ll cherish forever. For those who seek beauty in the wild, this is a reminder that nature always has surprises tucked away — even where you least expect.
Feeling incredibly grateful to witness and capture such a stunning bird in my own region!

iifmofficial IIFM, Bhopal organized a Three-Day Training Programme (MDP) on "Management of Village Relocation from Tiger Reserves" under training of 'Other Stakeholders' sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India from 2-4 November 2022. The training programme was inaugurated by the Director, IIFM, Dr. K Ravichandran (IFS). The MDP was attended by participants from a wide range of sectors and geographical locations of the country. The multi-disciplinary programme focused on bringing to the forefront the challenges faced by the villagers post relocation, as well as by the field staff in mitigating impoverishment risks arising out of relocation and rebuilding lives. Dr. Ujjal Kumar Sarma, Associate Professor, IIFM and Chairperson-Centre for Forest-Based Livelihood and Tribal Studies, IIFM is the Programme Director for this training.
