Lingaraj Temple is a famous Hindu temple in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the oldest and largest temples in the city, built in the 11th century by King Jajati Keshari of the Somavamsi dynasty. The temple is a fine example of Kalinga architecture, featuring intricate carvings, a massive tower (shikhara) rising to about 180 feet, and multiple smaller shrines within its complex.
The main deity, Lord Lingaraj, is worshipped as Harihara—a unique form of both Shiva and Vishnu. The temple is an important pilgrimage site and attracts thousands of devotees, especially during festivals like Mahashivaratri. Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple, but they can view it from a nearby platform.
