Brahmins and Their Historical Influence in Indian Society

Throughout Indian history, Brahmins have played a significant role in shaping education, philosophy, literature, and religious traditions. As custodians of sacred texts and knowledge systems, many Brahmin scholars contributed to the preservation and development of ancient learning, including the Vedas, Sanskrit literature, astronomy, mathematics, and philosophy.

The influence of Brahmins was often linked to their traditional role as teachers, advisors, priests, and scholars. Over centuries, they helped establish educational institutions, guided rulers on matters of governance and ethics, and contributed to the intellectual and cultural heritage of the Indian subcontinent.

However, India’s strength has always come from the contributions of people from all communities and backgrounds. Every caste, profession, and social group has played an important role in building the nation’s civilization, culture, economy, and traditions.

Rather than viewing any community as superior to others, it is more meaningful to recognize the unique contributions each group has made to society. Understanding history with respect and balance helps promote unity, mutual appreciation, and social harmony.

Lessons from the Nimapada Incident: When Educators Fail Society

The recent incident in Nimapada has sparked heated debates across society. Fingers are being pointed in every direction—some blame the teacher-husband, while others blame the wife. But beyond the blame game, one must ask: what lesson is society supposed to learn from such an episode?

An obscene video going viral may sadly be expected from a reckless youth culture, but when such behavior is linked to teachers—individuals entrusted with shaping young minds—the disappointment is far greater. Teachers are supposed to set examples, not destroy them.

Yes, perhaps the woman teacher chose a wrong path. But the male teacher also shares responsibility. He not only disrupted his own marital life but also interfered in another. When such situations arise, the choices are clear: either resolve matters through understanding or dissolve the relationship legally through divorce. Even punishment, if necessary, should remain within the private domain of the household.

But what actually happened is deeply troubling. Dragging a woman in a humiliating state on public roads is not only condemnable but also inhumane. That woman is not just an individual—she is a mother, a teacher, and someone’s daughter or sister. One must ask the uncomfortable question: if it had been the professor’s own mother, sister, or daughter who had committed such a mistake, would he have made their private life public in this way?

Yes, mistakes were made. But society has laws for dealing with mistakes. Justice systems exist for a reason. Human beings are fallible—no man or woman is without flaws. Problems can be corrected through dialogue, or when that fails, through lawful separation.

Instead, this professor chose to take the law into his own hands. In doing so, he not only stripped the dignity of the woman involved—dignity worth more than crores of rupees—but also destroyed his own honor. Worse, he left his child with a lifelong burden: to face the stigma and whispered questions of society.

The real tragedy of this incident is not just the personal downfall of two individuals, but the painful story of struggle and disgrace imposed upon families, children, and the very institution of education.

If anything, the Nimapada incident is a grim reminder: when those entrusted with guiding society fail, the damage extends far beyond themselves. It scars generations.

Story – “The King, the Baker, and the Price of Bread”

Once upon a time, in a prosperous kingdom, the common people lived simple lives. Their daily food was plain but essential – bread. In the marketplace, there was a well-known baker who supplied bread to almost everyone.

One day, news spread across the land:
“Taxes have been reduced! The burden on merchants will now be lighter.”

The people rejoiced.
“Wonderful! Now the price of bread will surely go down.”

But what happened was quite the opposite.
The baker, instead of lowering the price, quietly raised it higher.

The people were shocked.
“Strange! Taxes are reduced, yet bread is more expensive? How can this be?”

The matter soon reached the ears of the King. He summoned the baker to his court.

King: “Baker, taxes have been lowered. Why then have you raised the price of bread?”
Baker (smiling): “Your Majesty, I raised it because I hoped to make more profit.”

The King, who was cunning, replied:
“Oh! If profit is what you want, then why stop here? Raise the price to three times higher.”

The baker was startled.
“But, Your Majesty, the people will grow angry!”

The King leaned forward and said firmly:
“Do as I say. Raise it threefold. Leave the rest to me.”

The very next day, the price of bread was tripled.
The people were furious. They marched to the palace in protest:
“This is robbery! We cannot afford bread anymore!”

The King appeared before them, pretending to be sympathetic.
“My dear subjects, I understand your suffering. Do not worry, I will see to it that the price of bread is reduced.”

He called the baker and ordered:
“Lower the price a little.”

The baker obeyed. The bread became cheaper than yesterday, but still much higher than the original price.

The people, however, rejoiced.
“Long live the King! The price has come down! What a just and merciful ruler we have!”

ଯଦି ଧର୍ମେନ୍ଦ୍ର ପ୍ରଧାନଙ୍କର ପ୍ରାଥମିକତା ଓଡ଼ିଶା, ତେବେ ସେ ରାଷ୍ଟ୍ରୀୟ ରାଜନୀତିରେ ନୁହେଁ, ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ରାଜନୀତିରେ ସକ୍ରିୟ ହେବା ଉଚିତ।

ବାଞ୍ଝା : ଭାଷାରେ ଲୁଚାଇଥିବା ଅନ୍ୟାୟର କାହାଣୀ

ସେହି ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟାର କଥା।
ଜଣେ ଯୁବତୀ, ନାମ ତା’ର ଅନୁରାଧା।
ତା’ର ଘରେ ବହୁତ ପୁରୁଣା ପୁସ୍ତକ ଓ ଶବ୍ଦକୋଷ ଥିଲା।
ସେ ବହୁଦିନ ଧରି ଭାଷା ଓ ସମାଜରେ ନାରୀଙ୍କୁ କିପରି ଚିତ୍ରିତ କରାଯାଏ – ଏହା ନେଇ ଚିନ୍ତା କରୁଥିଲା।

ଶବ୍ଦକୋଷର ଖୋଜ

ସେହି ରାତିରେ ସେ ଏକାକି ବସି, ଶବ୍ଦକୋଷ ଖୋଲିଲା।
ହଠାତ୍ ତା’ର ଚକ୍ଷୁ ପଡ଼ିଲା ଏକ ଶବ୍ଦରେ –
“ବାଞ୍ଝ” – ସନ୍ତାନହୀନା ନାରୀ।

ସେ ନିଜକୁ ପଚାରିଲା –
“ନାରୀ? କିନ୍ତୁ ପୁରୁଷ?”
ସେ ପୃଷ୍ଠାଗୁଡ଼ିକ ପଟିପଟି ଫେରାଇଲା।
କିନ୍ତୁ କେଉଁଠି ମଧ୍ୟ ପୁରୁଷ ପାଇଁ ଏପରି କୌଣସି ଶବ୍ଦ ନଥିଲା।

ସେହି କ୍ଷଣରେ ଅନୁରାଧାର ମନରେ ଘୋର ସନ୍ଦେହ ଓ ବିଦ୍ରୋହ ଦୁଇଟି ଆଗୁନ ଜଳିଉଠିଲା।

ସମାଜର ଦୁଇଟି ମାପ

ଭାବିଲା –
ଇତିହାସରେ ଏତେ ରାଜା, ଏତେ ସମ୍ରାଟ,
ଯେମାନେ ରାଣୀଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଶହେ-ଶହେ ବିବାହ କରିଥିଲେ।
କିନ୍ତୁ ବନ୍ଶ ଲିଭିଗଲେ, କାହାକୁ “ବାଞ୍ଝ” କୁହାଯାଇଥିଲା?
ରାଣୀମାନେ।

ରାଜାଙ୍କୁ କେବେ “ବାଞ୍ଝ” କୁହାଯାଇନି।
ସମାଜର ଆଇନାରେ, ପୁରୁଷ ସଦା ନିର୍ଦୋଷ।
ନାରୀ? ସଦା ଦୋଷୀ

ପ୍ରଶ୍ନର କାଢି

ଅନୁରାଧାର ଆଖିରେ ଗଭୀର ପ୍ରଶ୍ନ –
“କି ପୁରୁଷ କେବେ ବାଞ୍ଝ ହୁଅନ୍ତି ନାହିଁ?
କିମ୍ବା ଭାଷା ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଲୁଚାଇବାକୁ ସାହସୀ ହୋଇନଥିଲା?”

ସେ ଦେଖିଲା –
ଭାଷା ମାତ୍ର କଥା କହୁନି,
ଭାଷା ସମାଜର ପକ୍ଷପାତକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ପ୍ରକାଶ କରେ।

ବାଡିର ବୁଢ଼ା ମଣିଷଙ୍କ କଥା

ତା’ର ଦାଦାଙ୍କୁ ସେ ପଚାରିଲା –
“ଦାଦା, ବାଞ୍ଝ କେବଳ ନାରୀ ପାଇଁ କାହିଁକି?”

ଦାଦା କହିଲେ –
“ସମାଜ ଏପରି।
ପୁରୁଷଙ୍କୁ ସଦା ‘ଶକ୍ତିଶାଳୀ’ ଭାବରେ ଚିତ୍ରିତ କରାଯାଇଛି।
ତାଙ୍କର ଦୋଷକୁ ଲୁଚାଇ,
ନାରୀଙ୍କୁ ଅପରାଧୀ କରିଛି।”

ଅନୁରାଧା ବୁଝିଲା –
ଏହା କେବଳ ଶବ୍ଦର ଅଭାବ ନୁହେଁ,

*mass removal ନୁହେଁ, ବରଂ sterilization + vaccination କରି, ପୁଣି locality ରେ release କରାଯିବ ।
*Rabid ଓ aggressive କୁକୁର shelter ରେ ରହିବେ ।
*ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ward ରେ feeding zone ହେବ, ରାସ୍ତାରେ feeding ban ।

କିନ୍ତୁ ସମାଜର double standard ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟ –
🐓 କୁକୁଡ଼ା tasty
🐐 ଛେଳି tasty
🐕 କୁକୁର dangerous!

ସତରେ କି compassion selective ହେବା ଉଚିତ୍?
ସମସ୍ତ ପଶୁର ଜୀବନର value ସମାନ, କିନ୍ତୁ ଆମେ କେବଳ କୁକୁରକୁ protect କରୁଛୁ, ବାକୀ plate ରେ ପଡ଼ିଥିବା ପଶୁକୁ ignore କରୁଛୁ ।

ଏହା society ର ଦୁଇମୁହା standard – safety vs food, compassion vs culture ।

My Experience in Bhubaneswar, Odisha – A Lesson on GST & Revenue Loss

Today, I shifted my office to a new location in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Since I needed 4 AC units, I started searching online from Dubai and came across Raj Electronics. I called their landline, got connected to a sales representative, and continued the discussion over WhatsApp.

After finalizing the product and costs, the salesman asked me a simple question:
“Sir, do you want to pay in cash or online? If you pay online, GST 18% will be applicable.”

This made me think—how much revenue is our Government losing every single day because of such practices?

In India, GST rates vary across products and services, often as high as 18%. This gives both buyers and sellers an incentive to avoid digital transactions and prefer cash, so they can skip paying taxes. For example, if someone sells goods worth ₹1,00,000, then ₹18,000 (18% GST) should go directly to the Government. But if the buyer pays in cash, that entire amount is bypassed.

Take another example from Bangalore: most PG (Paying Guest) accommodations collect rent in cash. If tenants pay online, GST at 18% is added, so naturally, both sides prefer cash. The result—a massive daily loss of potential tax revenue.

In contrast, in Dubai we pay a fixed 5% VAT on all products and services. It’s simple, uniform, and unavoidable. Since everyone pays it, the Government earns consistently without loopholes.

I strongly believe India needs a reform here—One Nation, One Tax (fixed rate). A simplified, flat tax structure across all goods and services will not only reduce evasion but also ensure fairness and stability in revenue collection.

This is my personal opinion, but I feel if implemented, India could see a huge boost in transparent tax collection and stronger economic growth.

As we grow older, health issues are natural and medical care becomes necessary. It is neither acceptable nor respectful to politicize or gossip about someone’s health condition. Unfortunately, the way certain media outlets in Odisha, including so-called leading channels, have been spreading baseless news since yesterday is deeply disappointing.

It is a simple truth that everyone faces health challenges with age — but why should politicians turn this into a subject of politics? Truly shameful.

We must remember to show respect to Naveen Babu, who has been the driving force behind Odisha’s remarkable development. His decades of dedication and achievements should never be forgotten, yet it is sad to see that instead of honoring his legacy, politics is being played around his health.
