Please read it, and be a part of to save Chilka and endangered species.
Before this we have always share with you about the beautiful of Chilka lagoon and about the flora and fauna. But today we are going to show you all and to the world, some naked truth about the Chilka lagoon. These pictures are of the outer channel of Chilka lagoon, this place is 1.5 Km far from the Magarmukh Channel or the sea mouth. Where the Bay of Bengal and Chilka lagoon is meet with each other. After the tide some garbage are going to the sea and some stay in the lagoon, for this coz Chilka is going to sallow day by day. Sometimes the animal of water taking these garbage as their food and It may be the reason the death of whales, Dolphins, Porpoise, in the Coastal belt of Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. I want to clean this place and save wild life and the most beautiful creatures. I need your help to Save Chilka please Help us and be a part of it.

Common Swallow Hirundo Rustica
Size-length c.18cm
Field Characters-glossy steel blue or purplish blue above, pale pinkish white below, chestnut forehead and throat, the latter bordered by a broad glossy black pectoral band. Deeply forked “Swallow” tail especially prominent in flight . sexes alike.
Status and distribution – Breeds in the Himalayas from Nepal eastward to Darjeeling , Sikkim , Bhutan to c.3000 also in Assam Hills south of Brahmaputra River. Winters south to the extreme tip of the Peninsula.
Habitat- Gregarious usually seen huddled on telegraph wires or hawking midges over open country marshaland . seen near open country lakes and rivers, generally near water in winter . Roosts in large congregations amongst reed-beds and tamarisk thickest .
Food – Chiefly midges , gnats, and other dipterous insects.
WPA- Not included
Status in Chilka.- An abundant winter visitor to the lake, frequenting all the habitats including flying over open water . the sight of large flocks resting on electrical lines along the periphery of the lake, and on fishing poles and nets within the lake are a common during autumn and spring passage time. It arrives by early August and its numbers increase through winter. It leaves by late April, But a few individuals stay till early June . it occurs in several hundreds in all the sectors.

Ringed Plover (Charladies hiaticula)

Size: Gray Quail: length c. 19 cm.

Field Characters: Adult: Sexes alike; bill, legs and feet orange-yellow, the former with black tip. Non-breeding (winter): Breast-band and ear-converts brownish-black; forehead and super cilium whitish; legs and base of bill orangish. Breeding (summer): Upper fore-head, lores to upper ear-coverts black. A board line from eye to eye covering lower fore-head white; remaining head and upper-parts dark brown, except a buffish hind-collar. Tail brown with a broad sub-terminal white band and pure white tip; chin, throat and sides of neck white, meeting the buffish hind collar; a broad black band across the fore-neck and upper breast; remaining under-parts white.
Status and Distribution: A very rare winter migrant in India, east to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives.

Habitat: intertidal mudflats mangroves and freshwater lakes.

Food: carnivorous

Migrated from: NE Europe and Russia(high arctic)

WPA status: Schedule IV

Status in Chilika: This species uncommon to India was not sighted during the last eight years in Chilika.
