As I prepare for a series of cultural talks and engagements across Germany and Switzerland, one of the books that has found a place in my travel bag is Why I Am a Hindu by

For me, travel is not only about discovering new places; it is also about understanding our own cultural roots and the stories that shape our identities. One of my favourite parts of every journey is finding time to read, reflect, and engage with ideas that help explain India beyond headlines and stereotypes.

As conversations about India, culture, heritage, architecture, and travel continue across Europe in the coming weeks, books like these remind us of the richness, diversity, and complexity of the country we represent. Understanding India is not just about visiting monuments—it is about engaging with its philosophies, histories, traditions, and people.

Looking forward to meaningful conversations, cultural exchanges, and new perspectives along the way.

The idea of India 🇮🇳

Excited to share a series of cultural talks and conversations across Germany and Switzerland centred around the idea of “Know Before You Travel to India.”

Through these sessions, we explore India beyond stereotypes — its art, architecture, culture, living heritage, traditions, cities, landscapes, food, crafts, and everyday narratives that shape the experience of travelling through the country. From modernist Chandigarh and sacred spaces to rural Rajasthan and cultural journeys, the talks aim to create deeper understanding and meaningful cultural exchange between India and Europe.

Looking forward to sharing stories, experiences, and conversations through travel and heritage.

Summer-Ready Destination: Leh–Ladakh

Planning a trip to Leh?

Take it slow—this is not a destination to rush. The magic of the mountains unfolds best when you give your body and mind time to adapt to the altitude.

Acclimatization is key. Whether you’re traveling with kids, elders, or even as a young explorer, respect the pace your body needs. Rest on arrival, stay hydrated, and avoid over-planning the first couple of days.

At Walk Around India, we always recommend mindful travel—especially in high-altitude regions like Ladakh. Slow journeys create deeper connections, safer experiences, and far more meaningful memories.

✨ Travel gently. Travel wisely. Travel deeply.

From Delhi to Chandigarh to Amritsar—this wasn’t just a tour, it was a journey into India’s living creative landscape.

When a renowned interior designer shared, “We wanted to experience everything first-hand—see the art, meet the makers, and source directly from the creators,” we knew this would be about access, not just travel.

From design colleges to artist studios and even private homes, every stop was carefully curated. It took time to shape this kind of itinerary—but the outcome made it worth it.

Now here’s a glimpse…

👀 Any guesses what’s happening in this picture (in terms of art)?

Three frames. One vision.

From concrete poetry to political symbolism, the Capitol Complex in Chandigarh isn’t just architecture—it’s an idea cast in stone.

A city imagined.
A nation expressed.
A modernism that still breathes.

Le Corbusier didn’t just design buildings here—he designed a way of seeing.

Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in India: Modernism as World Heritage

An Intimate Talk Series by Dr. Avita Khawas
On the occasion of World Heritage Day

Step into the story of Chandigarh, India’s first planned modern city, designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret.

This talk offers a unique lens into how architecture, culture, and everyday life come together to shape a city that is today recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Blending architecture with travel and lived experience, the session invites you to explore Chandigarh not just as a design masterpiece, but as a vibrant destination—where modernism meets local culture, climate, and people.

Part of an ongoing Intimate Talk Series by Dr. Avita Khawas, bringing Indian art, architecture, and cultural narratives to global audiences.
