Krishnapuram palace is a unique one in Kerala style of architecture. The historically important palace, which could be reached from the national highway- NH 47 going via Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district of Kerala.

The palace is built with gabled roofs, narrow corridors, dormer windows, terraced garden with fountain, ponds and lawns. It was the residence of the kings of Kayamkulam dynasty last stayed, but the age of palace is unknown.

The palace now functions as archaeological museum. There are numbers of ancient painting and inscriptions, coins, megalithic remains, artifacts made of wood, brass and stone sculptures here. But the most fascinating exhibit is a mural painting- Gajendra Moksham. The painting is 49 sq. km, and is a largest single band of mural painting as far discovered in Kerala.
The theme of the mural is mythological and depicts an elephant saluting Lord Vishnu in devotion while the other minor gods, goddesses and saints look on. Lord Vishnu was the family deity of the Kayamkulam Kings. This mural, in a fusion of colors and expressions, was placed prominently at the entrance to the palace from the pond to enable the kings to worship the deity after their daily ablutions.

If you wish to visit the heritage tourist attractions, it is one of the best places in India.

Fly India Tours and Travels welcomes you to experience this magnificent palace. For enquiry please visit our website: www.flyindiatoursandtravels.com. Email: [email protected].

Munroe Island (Malayalam : മണ്റോ തുരുത്ത്) or Mundrothuruthu is formed by the backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River, in Kollam district, Kerala, South India. Located about 27 Kilometer north of Kollam, this beautiful island is still untouched. This island is named after Colonel Munroe, the British Resident of Travancore State.
The flow of life here is as calm as the river that gracefully settles into the wider backwaters. They get on their lives with their traditional down to earth life style. Lives revolve around coir weaving, sand mining and fishing.
The island village is one of the best tourism destinations where one can see the coir retting process, coir weaving, fishing, prawns feeding, migratory bird watch, narrow canals and waterways, coconut farms on the lake shore, lagoons, mangrove plants and the beautiful tiny islands of Pothupara.
The island is a perfect place if you want to spend some quality time with your family and friends.

Kaviyoor is a small village, appearing in historic books as one of the ancient 64 Brahmin settlements of Kerala. It is located on the western bank of the river Manimala in the taluk of Tiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, India.

An ancient rock cut temple “Kaviyoor Thrikkakkudi Cave Temple” is located here, carved on a huge rock and the carved rooms and sculptures are well preserved. This Cave Temple is of historical importance and is preserved as a monument by the Archaeological Department.

The temple has a verandah with a sculpture of Lord Ganapathi carved into the wall and inner sanctum containing a tall shivalinga, all carved out of one huge rock. It bears close resemblance to the Pallava style of architecture. The engravings here are among the earliest specimens of stone sculptures in Kerala. Enshrined in a square cave is the main deity of the shrine, Lord Shiva, represented in the ' Shivalinga' which is about three feet high and carved out of rock.
The bas relief image at the door way represents Bhima, the Pandava prince of Mahabharatha. Also there are bas relifs of Lord Ganapathi and the sage. The sanctum is guarded by imposing bas relief images of Dwarapalakas. The niches, on the outer wall on either side of the entrance of the sanctum, houses these Dwarapalakas.. It is inferred by scholars that this cave temple was constructed in the Pallava architectural style and may be datable to 8th century. The natural pond amidst two rocks is another attraction. The rock-cut monument is protected by the Archaeological Department.

One version of the legend says that the rock cut monument was built by demons within one night. It is also believed that Lord Shiva and Hanuman of Kaviyur Mahadeva temple appeared here to interrupt the task of temple construction. The demons had to flee to save their lives. Another version says that the Pandavas of Mahabharatha dwelled in this cave during their exile in the forests.
