The Gingee Venkataramana Temple was built in the 16th century in Gingee, Villupuram District, Tamilnadu, India. In 1761 CE, when Gingee fell to French, many tall graceful monolithic ornamental pillars were dismantled and taken to Pondicherry to be set around the base of the statue of Governor Dupleix. Later, in 1860 CE, a Jain official dismantled several stone-pieces including the great stone elephants from this temple, to make edifices in the Sittamur Jain temple. Even though this temple was plundered by multiple invaders, It still remains as a proof of its glorious past with its striking sculptures and carved pillars that narrates the aesthetic skills of the Nayaka dynasty.
