We are happy to announce that Bhutan has re-opened to tourists. There have been some changes in the country’s tourism policy which has increased the tourism levy but we still feel a visit to this Himalayan Kingdom is a unique experience; a journey through time to a country with a special culture where you will be extended a huge welcome. Contact us to start planning your Bhutan journey.

It is a good morning for all of us at EHT.
After months of uncertainty we are delighted to announce that the Indian Government have relaxed their entrance requirements for international travellers, and the need for quarantine on arrival has been dropped. Now is the time to start planning that Indian Adventure!
February & March are great months for travel in most parts of India, particularly Rajasthan, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh & Gujarat.
In April, when the temperatures begin to rise, it is an excellent time to visit the National Parks, with good wildlife sightings.
From May onwards the Himalayan Foothills beckon, and from June it is the perfect time to visit Ladakh.
What are you waiting for?

Praying for India and Nepal. We have been heartened by the support of our friends and clients over the last year. I realise everyone has dug deep for many causes but I also suspect many who know India are looking at current events in horror and pity and would like to help. Due to strict foreign currency regulations it is difficult to donate to some of the smaller, grass root NGOs but below is a list of organisations who can accept foreign donations and who are supporting those doing excellent work in India and Nepal to relieve the suffering. Thinking of all our friends and colleagues in India - what a time the country is going through but we are all waiting for the day the sun will rise again on a better tomorrow. Heartened by the comments and compassion from clients and friends around the world who are all thinking of everyone in India.

The Earth is such a wonderful place but we seem to do everything possible to mess it up. In the tourism field single use plastics, especially water bottles, continue to have a huge negative impact. At EHT we have been providing re-useable water bottles to all our guests for several years - it is only a small step but hopefully the beginning of an improved world for all. We must all do what we can. On Earth Day 2021 it is time to reflect!

Today I lost a good friend and a huge supporter in the hospitality industry. Martin Howard, the larger than life character behind Tikli Bottom, the delightful home stay outside Delhi which he ran with his dear wife, Annie. Martin always said he and I made a good team! He generously steered guests that needed travel assistance in India my way, and I would reciprocate by suggesting to many that Tikli Bottom was an ideal location to end an India itinerary. His hospitality was legendary, as were his birthday celebrations. RIP dear Martin.

If you are beginning to rediscover your appetite for travel, whether for a short ‘get-away’ or a longer adventure, let’s look at some facts that may help you to decide on the best way to book these precious trips.

The majority of you predictably assume it is cheaper and better to research destinations and hotels via social media, and that it is more economical to book direct, but this is factually incorrect! Engaging the services of travel consultants such as Emma Horne Travel have distinct advantages, even though direct bookings have become much more accessible. It certainly has since I first started assisting fellow Delhi residents arrange their journeys out of town. However, I’d like to explain what are the benefits in booking via a trusted agent, like ourselves!

1. Find Hidden Gems – you may get a personal recommendation from friends or read something on social media, and that is really helpful. As an agent, we have a wide knowledge of what is available including some hidden gems a bit off the grid and perfect for city getaways. Reviews on TripAdvisor can be very subjective, we can provide a broader perspective of what a property has to offer and whether it is the kind of accommodation that will suit you and your family. Besides personally checking hotels we have positive feedback from numerous clients to support our views.
2. Good Rates – Fact: Booking through us will be no more expensive than booking direct. Our rates are competitive with on-line rates, and indeed in some cases may be lower. In addition we have add-ons not available direct. For example, we are often able to clear rooms which might show as sold out, or block rooms on a tentative basis whilst you make a final decision.
3. Added Value – due to our long and personal relationship with the hotels and their owners our guests are always treated with a little more respect and care. You arrive as a named friend not an anonymous client. Extra activities and benefits are included in our rates.
4. Itinerary planning – even an experienced Indophile can be unsure how best to fit places together, or how long driving between locations will take. We are experienced in planning itineraries and can therefore make the most of the time you have available.
5. Quality guides & drivers – Why take risks, let us provide you with proven and tested guides and drivers. We can also advise on locally run tours that go a little deeper than general sightseeing and help you see the other side of a town, even if it is one you have visited before. (Look at the bad reviews – almost all are a result of a poor guide, bad driving experience, or excessive journey time.)
6. Help when things don’t go as planned – we all know India has her quirks, particularly when it comes to domestic flights! If any changes need to be made, however last minute, we are on hand 24/7 to make sure all goes as smoothly as possible.

As with everything it is our clients who give the honest feed-back – the following are quotes from recent travellers:

‘Guide was excellent (best so far I would say!). The hotel was super and the experience was quite amazing!’

‘Thanks so much indeed - this has been a cracking holiday!’
‘We are back at home now, after an incredible long weekend in Leh. Everything worked very well - the hotel was extremely comfortable and friendly, and our guide and driver were both excellent’

‘We are pretty sure the trip would have been impossible without you - lots of challenges in getting there (and some in getting back) - but a relaxing time when we got there.

SO WHY NOT GIVE US A TRY? I think you will be pleasantly surprised, let us know where you might be thinking of travelling so we can make suggestions and quote.

Wonderful to see so many of our favourite properties in this list - hope it will not be too long before we are out there travelling to them again. Of course if you are already in India these are all wonderful escapes from the city, so what are you waiting for!

The travel industry is sometimes criticised by green activists for being wasteful. And at times, they’re right; the industry can put quite a bit of strain on

World Elephant Day - what a great excuse to post some photographs of my favourite animal (well one of them!) - whether Indian or African there is nothing more charismatic than these gentle giants.
When planning your next trip to the subcontinent, be it India, Nepal or Sri Lanka, why not include a trip to one of the many beautiful national parks and see these lovely creatures for yourselves.
