Kedarnath Dham is one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas near the Mandakini River at an altitude of about 3,583 meters (11,755 ft) above sea level.

🌄 Key Highlights:

Spiritual Significance: Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and a major part of the sacred Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand (along with Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri).

Temple History: The present stone temple is believed to have been built by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD, near the original temple site believed to be built by the Pandavas.

Mythology: It is said that after the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva’s blessings to atone for their sins. Lord Shiva eluded them and appeared at Kedarnath in the form of a bull, eventually merging into the ground, leaving his hump behind – which is now worshipped as the Shiva lingam.

Scenic Beauty: Surrounded by snow-clad peaks, especially the majestic Kedarnath Peak, and glacial valleys, the location is breathtaking and spiritually uplifting.

Trek Route: Kedarnath is reachable by a 16-18 km trek from Gaurikund, though helicopter services are also available.

Best Time to Visit: May to June and September to October (temple remains closed in winter due to heavy snowfall).

Kedarnath is not just a pilgrimage; it’s a journey of faith, endurance, and spiritual awakening amidst the grandeur of the Himalayas.
