A summit push is only one part of a mountain expedition.

What looks like a single climb from Base Camp to the summit is actually a carefully planned process of acclimatization, rotations, higher camps, weather assessment and calculated decision-making.

The journey usually looks like:

Approach → Base Camp → Acclimatization → Rotations → Higher Camps → Weather Window → Summit Push → Descent

Every stage has a purpose.
The approach gets you to the mountain. Base Camp becomes your operational hub. Acclimatization allows your body to adapt to decreasing oxygen levels, while rotations gradually take you higher before returning to recover.
As the expedition progresses, camps move higher and the terrain becomes more demanding. Then comes the waiting game — finding the right weather window for the summit attempt.

When conditions align, the summit push begins. Often starting before sunrise, climbers face thin air, extreme cold, long hours and challenging terrain.

Not every mountain has a first ascent. Some remain unclimbed because they're too technical, some are protected for religious or cultural reasons, and some simply remain untouched.

In this carousel, we explore a few of the world's fascinating virgin peaks — Gangkhar Puensum (7,570 m), Machapuchare (6,993 m), Mount Kailash (6,638 m), Kangri Shar (~6,800 m) and Gonbo Rangjon (5,520 m).
