Reigning the frame with its beauty in this picture is the Himalayan Monal at Chopta, Uttrakhand. Known for varied hues, it is found in Himalayan hill forests. If you plan a trip to Chopta any time soon, do try to spot the Himalayan Monal amidst the icy backdrop!

The Himalayan Monal is an elusive bird to photograph and despite widespread distribution, it seldom gives the pose that you seek to find. Chopta in Uttarakhand has a few spots where the Monal wouldn't just pose for your camera but perform a ballet too! Chopta is where the Monal courts for a mate, performs a ballet to woo a female and tries to raise a brood.

Each year more than a million diyas are carved by artisans with their finesse and love for the handicraft tradition. The beautiful essence of the festival comes alive as these diyas not just light our homes but those of the artisans.
