A small village named Kuldhara is located about 18 kilometers from Jaisalmer. It is said that around 1291, rich and hardworking Paliwal Brahmins settled this village of 600 houses. It is also believed that there were 84 villages around Kuldhara and only Paliwal Brahmins used to live in all of them.

The community of Paliwal Brahmins generally depended on agriculture and cattle rearing. The layer of gypsum prevented the rain water from getting absorbed in the ground and the Paliwal Brahmins used to irrigate their fields with this water.

But what happened that the people of 84 villages, who were happy and cheerful, were suddenly forced to leave their homes, houses, farming, everything in just one night? The mysterious story of Kuldhara is related to this question, which is allegedly related to curses and evil spirits.

The Paliwal Brahmins, who were living a happy life, fell under the evil eye of the Diwan Salam Singh there. Salam Singh liked a Brahmin girl and he started trying to get her by making every possible effort.

When all his efforts failed, Salam Singh threatened the villagers that either they should hand over the girl to him by the full moon day or he would kidnap her himself.

The villagers were faced with the challenge of saving the honor of a girl. If they wanted, they could have saved their home by sacrificing the girl but they chose another path.

One night all the Brahmins of 84 villages sat together and decided that they would vacate this village overnight but would not let anything happen to that girl. All the surrounding villages including Kuldhara were vacated in just one night. While leaving, they cursed this village that no one would be able to settle in this place, whoever comes here will be ruined.

That curse is following the deserted and barren land of Kuldhara till date. That is why whoever dared to live in those houses or settle in that place was ruined.
Believing the curse on this place as fabricated, many people came here but whoever stayed here for a night could never go back. No one could find even a trace of it.
Let us tell you that with changing times, 82 villages were rebuilt, but two villages Kuldhara and Khabha have not been inhabited even after many efforts. These villages are now under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India, which are opened daily for tourists in daylight.

Custodians of beliefs of more than a billion people: the holy places of India cross the boundaries of time to sanctify the lives around them.
If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India” -Max Mueller, German scholar
India has been praised by some of the great people who have lived on the Earth. The evidence of Indian civilization can be traced back to thousands of years. No other place can vouch for the sort of diversity, which fills every nook and cranny of this incredible country. The various religions, languages, dialects, traditions and customs provide many facets of the majestic country called India.
The geographic land of India has several marks of faith spread all across its length and breadth. Certain structures have several centuries of devotion backing them, granting more authenticity and reverence.
“India has two million gods, and worships them all. In religion all other countries are paupers; India is the only millionaire.” – Mark Twain (American author)
Indian religions, especially Hindu faith, offer numerous Gods and Goddesses to seek blessings from. Below is a list of 30 famous pilgrimage places in India, which stand gloriously, pouring blessings over the mankind:
